The Southend Vulcan is owned and cared for (extremely well) by the Vulcan Restoration Trust www.avrovulcan.com

The only flying Vulcan (and only for another week or so) is owned and operated by http://www.vulcantothesky.org

A few pics I took of the Vulcan at the Scottish Air Show.
I was there too, great day perfect conditions.

First time I'd seen a Vulcan and it seems it will be the last. The first thing that struck me was the sheer size of the thing and then came the sound which was just amazing, easily the best sound of the day for me.
I was surprised to hear that she had an issue with her nosewheel at Prestwick. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxshOMFTZdM

I bet a lot of people thought the BBMF Spitfire was part of the Vulcan display.

Seems as-good-a-place as any to remind people that the last flying Vulcan flies for what may be the last time tomorrow at the Shuttleworth Collection.

Background here http://www.vulcantothesky.org/history/post-flight/...

If you're local - worth a trip I reckon!

I had noticed it stayed in the air over towards the airport for a long time after the display had finished, never knew that was the reason.

It _isn't_ the last flight tomorrow. There are to be two 'farewell tours' (northern and southern) on Oct 10 and 11 and further flights have been hinted at.

Nice piece of marketing fluff - but a hackneyed old one too as there have been countless publicity shots of car and plane . Having seen- and heard - 4 Vulcans do a simultaneous take off on more than one occasion - a tricked up Aston for rich eurotrash doesn't really cut it by comparison .

I am surprised the rich track day obsessives who are really interested in going really fast don't buy something like a Radical SR8 and they can even save half a million quid or so in the process

Can we exhume a Valiant to fly over the eponymous Chrysler and a Victor to overfly a Vauxhall next ?

Can we have full-size of all the pics in the article please (or as many as you can), they're absolutely magnificent.
On the vulcan (plane) twitter feed, there is a link posted yesterday that has higher res versions of most of the pics - not massive, but pretty much full screen on a laptop. (not sure on rules on posting links on here, especially as the link on twitter takes you another automotive website, but search for twitter and XH558 an you will find it or there is a directlink from the VTTS website to that.

The Radical might be faster, but this is an extremely rare all-carbon V12-engined beast with one of the most iconic badges in the business. The Radical is a fibreglass track car with (depending on model) a bought-in Ford or Suzuki 4-cylinder engine, or the Hayabusa-based V8 in the SR8. It's just not as special.

It's a car built for the track which will never be raced - like similar nonsenses such as the FXX . Th ereason Astons have an 'iconic' badge is mainly down to what the cars achieved on track in competition, and their obvious influence on road cars .

As a kid I was at a summer school - it must have been late 1970s - and some vulcans flew over. Amazing, super intimidating.

The car is pretty intimidating too. I saw one at Salon Prive, wow.

Remember the cars are made in a factory built on the site of the bomber factory.

Simon
Sorry, but got to correct you here.

Gaydon was a V bomber OCU (Operational Conversion Unit) base for Victor and Valiant V-bombers, there wasn't an OCU for Vulcans based there.

The Vulcan was built at the AVRO factory in Woodford, near Stockport.

I like!! The aircraft was labour intensive to maintain and a pig to work on. Ask any engine fitter (Sumpy) whose worked on the fuel recuperators. I bet the car will have a few idiosyncrases? J C.
