Im currently 17 and will have 1 years NCD very shortly, fingers crossed. I have had a 1.2 polo, 1.6 zetec s and 1.8 a3 in the past, however am now looking for the best car for 2.5k that fills the following criteria:
MPG: 30+
Relatively cheap to insure
Decent speed, preferably no slower than the audi or zetec s
Good handling, prefer small agile cars
It'll will be used as a daily car, mainly around town.

Currently ive been looking at the likes of mk1 focus' saxo vtrs, 106 gti, fabia vrs. Any opinions on these or other suggestions would be hugely helpful, Thanks

Clio 182 as any EP3 Civics will be really leggy at that price point.

Mine said that. Didnt speak to me for a few weeks once I passed my test admittedly but mum ended up buying my leathers for one birthday.

It does seem like a risk that may be worth taking, im sure they would come round eventually. A bike would easily fit all my requirements and id love to have one, but would still prefer a car just a struggle to find the right one!

So you've gone from looking at M3's before you were 17, to now looking at lesser cars..

mx-5 would be a great shout, but insurance quotes on them still seems to be to high!

I have a fabia vrs, worth about 2k atm. 132k on the clock. Its been great fun and very economical, average 50mpg over the last 2000 miles. However it has been pretty un-reliable :/ have spent 3k on it over the last 4 years frown doesn't stop me liking it!

OP, keep the money and put it toward something better.

2.5k will get you a good car, but 5k will get you into a better one.

And £25k will get you an even better one.

That would be throwing money away. Wait till you have saved £50k.

Something doesn't seem right here. You are 17 with with 1 years NCB??? How many months have you actually held a full license, or are we still talking days and weeks???

And you claim you've had 3 cars in the past. Surely the timescales we are talking, if this is even possible it would all be pretty much the present.

In this day and age it likely takes most people a min of 3 months to pass a driving test. So at best you've only been driving under 9 months.

And if you drive mainly around town, have you actually driven more than a few thousand miles in total? Hardly enough for a new driver to really get used to the finer points of driving let alone handling.

True - what was I thinking? What sort of peasant spend £2.5k on a car eh?
