I voted less than £50 a month. I put £10 a week in at the cheapest place locally.Possibly I break even on the place just round the corner, but IMHO, place round the corner has same franchise name as the other two large places in town, who charge average 5p/litre more for derv .It's not far from the butcher we go to to buy meat that tastes like meat, not supermarket chew sticks with no taste. So far ,I've managed to "make a profit"(gauge keeps on climbing week by week, and is now more than 3/4 full) on my fill ,as price in this place has constantly kept lower than local places, and I get the bonus of a PH like burnup on the alternative route home.

Why would you want to put fuel in 10 or 15 times a month? Why not just fill it up and do it 3 or 4 times?
I'm sorry but, if I put a full tank in I'd use up all the fuel just... going for a drive, believe me its not that hard. I pit £10/15 in go for a blast and call it a day.

too much considering my commute is 3 miles.

The thing is, the car is so comfy that it ends up getting used for a lot of other trips, especially the big ones because its so much nicer to drive on the motorway than the Civic even if it only averages 30 mpg. So far I am doing over £200 a month!

I seem to manage to fill up the Discovery once a week at 80 quid a time.

Well that's quite impressive. Suspect maybe not the most frugal of vehicle choices?

I've gone £251-£300 as that's probably my average however it depends hugely on the travel I do for business.

I probably only spend £70 on fuel for non-work mileage a month however can then do 2,500 miles for work which equates to about 7 tanks' fuel and therefore approximately a £470 bill.

On other months, I'll do only 500 miles for work and my bill won't exceed £150.

Usually aim for a tank of fuel (£60 ish) a month as the car doesn't get used terribly often. Gets me between 400 and 500 miles depending on conditions / roads etc.

I do about 1 tank a month in my 335i.
That's about £70 of V-Power

Civic Type R, which is modified so not the most economical car.

Commute is 200 miles a week which uses £50 give or take. The rest is consumed at the weekends for personal use.

Yeah my 25k miles a year is nearly all just doing things with the family. I live above my work, the school is only 3 miles away, so all my mileage is going places.
I live in Norwich, and went to Cambridge last Sunday, in London today, going to take my lad to Mountflicht Castle this Saturday, then off to stay in some wooden lodge the weekend after down near Hastings, then seeing friends over half term in Wiltshire etc. etc.

I don't gamble, don't have a season ticket to football as I work Saturdays and don't play golf etc. So don't mind spending a few quid on fuel and going away on lots of short breaks, they tend to be nice and cheap.
So many of my mates never go anywhere apart from when they go away for a fortnight in the summer, drive to the airport and get on a plane, so don't even drive far then.

Less than £50. I typically get 1-2 months from a single tank of diesel.
You were saying in the 'why do people buy expensive diesels?' thread that one of the reasons is your new diesel gets almost 50% better mpg than your older petrol.

So you're saving nearly £4 a week in fuel? I can see why you made the change now. biggrin
You should learn to read wink

I never said that I changed my old petrol for a diesel to save money. I was simply using my own experience of a Mk1 Focus petrol and then diesel to demonstrate that the latter got much better mpg.

I picked my current car because I wrote off a BMW 330i and needed to get a replacement car fairly quickly, as I wasn't entitled to a hire car and so had limited time to find something. I'd also wanted something fairly cheap to run and wanted a Mk1 Focus as I like them. The car I picked simply happened to be the best I could find for my budget and that was going to be cheap to run. I also looked at Petrol ones but the Diesel was in the best condition.

I work that out to be about 20mpg.

If you don't mind me asking, is £600 a reasonable chunk of your monthly income? I would assume to spend £600/month on fuel, you either have very little other outgoings, or must earn a very good wage.

That seems extremely thirsty. I do about 300 miles per week in my Type R and it returns 30-33 mpg depending on traffic and mood, so a tank lasts me a week.

1100 miles or so in the 1 series (£150ish) and 700 or so in the Z4MC (£150ish) for a nice round £300

As this is a car forum I'd expect the average to be higher, surprising amount of cars that hardly get used. Average mileage is still 10-12k miles a year so it should even out to (£150 ish a month for most people driving a 30mpg car)

20MPG is worse than I thought to be honest, but as I mentioned it isn't standard, plus it does get a fair amount of abuse on a daily basis.

I'd rather not divulge too much regarding my monetary situation, but I have very little outgoings being young and still living at home.
