RE: Never wash your car again!

Wheels. What about wheels? Clean wheels make a car look clean yet they're THE part I hate doing. I yearn for a product that really does repel brake dust and road grime...
I always use car polish on the painted alloy wheels and the brake dust just washes off easily without having to use any of those nasty corrosive products. It's like one of those stay sharp knives or pair of shoes you see balanced on someone's finger in the back of certain weekend papers. A good idea. That doesn't quite cut it. Still good luck to them, most people who will unload 2k on a wax job will be spending reasonable dollar on a car that won't get dirty anyway so it won't really be tested.
I challenge them to give a treatment away free to someone with a 30k pa motorway hack and see how their claims stacks up after 3 years

I'm highly suspicious of all these "magic" products. Audi conned me into buying their Auto Glym 'Lifeshine' finish on my A6 Allroad that the salesman told me would save me washing the car - all it needed was a hose and the dirt would just fall off and the car would stay in "showroom condition". Absolute rubbish. No different from ordinary car polish.
Also "protects against acid rain" except that when my bonnet became pock marked from tree sap the 'lifetime' warranty suddenly wouldn't cover tree sap.
For my 360 I use Zymol and you could not get a better finish. Just one annual re-application even on rubber/black trim and it gives fantastic protection better than anything I have ever used - drove today in the rain and it fell off leaving a dry body when I parked.
The pot of Zymol cost £80 but will last for years as you only use a small amount.
If you can wax your car once a year for a few pounds why would you spend 2 grand on something that is unproven and will last only 3 years?
If you can't manage a little polishing once per year on your pride and joy then you are not a true petrolhead.

Fellas, if you've got an expensive piece of kit that you want looking after I'd recommend Minutia detailing. I wouldn't let anyone else even look at my CSL!
The guys there use this ceramic pro stuff; brings out my car something special! Liftetime guarantee too.
Looks like a clean m3. However what guarantee do they offer? The guys there use this ceramic pro stuff; brings out my car something special! Liftetime guarantee too.

Yep. I'd love to see how it handles that. All weathers, car has to be kept clean as its a business car so washed regularly. Salt, bird crap, tree sap, tar.
I don't mind a bit of a cleaning session but I find detailers a bit like those strange folk on "Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners", it is trying to achieve perfection in an imperfect world and will either cost a fortune, drive you mad or both.
Then there are those folk that chrome and polish the underside of their car and put it on show on ramps with mirrors underneath, each to their own but doesn't that mean you cant actually drive it ? it seems to be a bit of a Sierra Cosworth owner affliction, not exclusively but there do seem to be a lot of Cosworths that are as shiny underneath as on top.
I think there is a happy medium, but whatever floats your boat, I would rather go and kick the st out of it than polish it.
And A Ferrari is way, way cooler if its filthy.

1st thing I'd do is drive it never mind clean it when it's already clean !MrBarry123 said:
Surely it's better to have it properly detailed every once in a while (say twice a year at £300 a pop) and then wash it as normal instead of spending £2k+ on, what is in reality, an extra layer of clear coat?
Paint correction removes a little clear coat every time, so I suppose this approach defers the day that a respray is needed. For most cars, that day would be long after it gets crushed into a cube, but perhaps for exotica it's a consideration?ManFromDelmonte said:
But why bother writing and then publishing an article about something that you admit is very dull and requires you to bend the truth in the headline just to get people to read it. Is it missing the "Promoted Content" tags or have you run out of more interesting things to write about?
Hmm vag not putting in as much money this month ? When I was a valeter about 18 years ago the new cars had the option of a Teflon coating from TST they were generally a boat hull coating, then as time progressed you could get stuff like super guard etc, if your of glass, glazing salesman you'll no all about the self cleaning windows you no the ones ! you have to clean them yourself
There is no substitute for elbow grease well unless that personal robot is ready yet
So it's basically a machine correction and a ceramic sealant that costs £2,000? For that much I think I'd want a wet sand to remove all the orange peel as well.
I applied Gtecniq to my mate's M5 the other week, I did have to rush the machine correction stage, but I still think I achieved something pretty special in a total of about 12 hours, and a total cost of about £80.

His feedback since having it done is that the bird st is sliding right off with a little spray of water (whereas it previously would etch into the paint), and someone actually stopped the other day and started staring at their reflection in the paint before complementing the car. I think I'll stick with Gtecniq for a bit and apply it myself

Never wash your car again?
Need to wash it ffs. These ceramic sealants are only self cleaning to a certain extent and they still need washing. preferably with a shampoo that doesn't lay down any wax or sealant. Something like Dodo Juice BTBM.
Do mine yearly - full day job with a quick machine polish and application of CQuartz UK.
Just like the unregulated sports supplement industry the 'car product' industry is the same so expect a lot of st products and false claims.
A good ceramic sealant and careful washing can see a car looking pretty good for a year but it needs maintaining, itll help massivly reduce marring and swirls if looked after. Its not magic.
