RE: VW Golf R Revo Technik: Driven
Discussion
oh dear.......and to summarise......I had one a few cars behind me earlier today (when out in this lovely rare November sunshine) whose driver was in attack mode weaving in and out of every car I could see on this urban dual carriageway with a 40 limit. he was up peoples arses just to to gain millimetres of clearance to then push back over to the left to undertake people then back out again.......he tried to pull in front of me to I guess then draw across me and undertake a car that was a few metres ahead of me in the right lane but when he realised he was out of room as everyone else seemed to be doing about 40 on went his anchors and I had him up my back bottom then......pity as I was turning into Halfords a few more metres up the road and with him up behind me and everyone else in lane 2 now closed up he had to just suffer a dash of humiliation of being forced to just calm it down a bit as everyone who he had just cut up sauntered back past him as I slowly turned into the Halford access road.
no wonder they have such a rude boy rep - you never see one being driven sensibly .

They are definitely Chavmobiles. I was outside the front of my house earlier today and one came past flat out, burping and farting as it went. It's a 30mph residential area. Complete tool.
I guess this is what happens when low monthly payments make powerful cars accessible to people with small brains.

Ironically, your post shows what happens when you make internet-connected devices accessible to people with small brains. I guess this is what happens when low monthly payments make powerful cars accessible to people with small brains.

Bit rude and no need to get personal, I was simply stating some people drive these cars like absolute tools as I witnessed today.Clockwork Cupcake said:
Because Confirmation Bias.
Let me guess, you are in possession of aforementioned Bruv chariot? wormus said:

No, you were implying (or certainly appeared to be) that all people who drive these cars are tools. You were damning the car by association. You saw one being driven badly and tarred all owners with the same brush. You might also notice that my "small brain" comment was a reworking of your own post, where you used the same phrase.

I drive one as a daily driver, yes. Although it's not my only car. I'm old enough to remember this all being said about Imprezas and Evos too. I'm not quite old enough to remember it being said of the Mk1 Escort, especially the Mexico, but I know it was.
Plus ca change, plus ca meme chose.

Its funny, but round my way its more likely to be the Golf GTD than the Golf R doing the tailgating.
Personally I have more issues with Nissan Qashqais! Does anyone drive those within local speed limits?
Back on thread, I know one of the REVO guys and was taken out in the Golf R demonstrator a couple of years ago (cant remember what spec it was, but around 400BHP . Driven normally, you really wouldn't know its a third more powerful. No pops and bangs, no fire coming out of the exhaust. At Bruntingthorpe their Golf was GPS'd at 180MPH. The remapped Octavia VRS wasn't that far behind at 170 apparently.
They also did a 180BHP Ecoboost Fiesta 1.0 which in many ways would be even more hilarious...!

Then you misunderstood. Saying they don't attract a certain mindset though is rather disingenuous.
Really? Let's look at your post again then...wormus said:

So you state that they are "definitely Chavmobiles". Then by way of example, you cite one that you observed and call them a tool. Then go on to say that the people who drive them have "small brains". I guess this is what happens when low monthly payments make powerful cars accessible to people with small brains.
Now, I'm not in any way defending bad driving, or inappropriate use of speed. I'm just pointing out that someone driving like a tool can be observed in any car.
I don't really get the hate for the Golf R. It's just a Golf with a decent amount of poke and AWD, which is why I bought one. I'm far too old to be a Girl Racer or a chav. I just wanted a Golf with a bit of poke and decent handling, which when de-badged (as mine is), will be seen as "just a Golf" by many drivers.
If I'd wanted to be a chavette, I'd have bought a Civic Type-R or a Focus RS Mk2.

I'm very close with REVO for reasons I won't elaborate to on here. They also did a 180BHP Ecoboost Fiesta 1.0 which in many ways would be even more hilarious...!
Currently the Golf R development/show car is running just over 500bhp, as you've said, it drives pretty normally.
They've removed all traces of the artificial pops and bangs in the mapping.
It does have a lairy wrap on it at the moment for shows, the brakes permanently squeal, the exhaust is quite loud and there's no rear interior which gives the game away a little bit.
However, the OBC when I last went out in it showed 29.9mpg and my god does it shift when poked but you could drive it every day (with ear plugs).
The 420hp Focus RS is fun too although it would probably benefit from a dual clutch 'box to be properly rapid.

The new chav mobile (especially in MK) is the Ford Ranger, driven with road rage everywhere. They must be on cheap lease deals.
Funny you should mention that …. I was in MK last week and thought there was a lot of double cabs and posh vans with rear windows / seats kicking around. Spoke to one guy who had one and sure enough £250 a month on a lease deal. The Golf R is old now - a lot of folks have moved on to other things …. MuscleSaloon said:

Oh come on, every blinged model in a line of cars carries a reputation of some sort. I'm quite sure you were aware of its status before you bought one. They can be snapped up for (relatively) little money and tuned - this has been case for a number of years now. It's not as if the base Golf the R is built on is particularly good anyway. It's home territory is tearing around council estates and Police secure lots having been stolen/recovered, and the odd slog to Tesco. No hate from me for the car, just a wide berth.
