I'd rather have the Alfa Giulia QV, over 500bhp, allegedly as quick around the Ringpiece and yours for half the price. Oh and it looks and sounds better too.

No doubt they will sell out quick enough, because as the old saying goes a fool and his money are easily parted...

I always think these BMW GTS are trying to be to mush like a 911 GT3 RS?
And fail miserably! The stock GT3 is far more desirable and I'd harbour a guess as a more accomplished drivers car too

Sure, it's a good looking car, exclusive and will be a great drive but I would be tempted to save 45k and buy an Audi RS6 which is quicker to 60 despite being half a tonne heavier and has 560 bhp on offer with Quattro 4 wheel drive. The performance just doesn't match the price.

A car that plays its' soundtrack through the speakers (yes, a digital sound file not a trick exhaust/inlet)

I mean, the list goes on, let alone the new turbo Carrera, the Mclaren 540C, 911 Turbo, V12 Vantage S, Audi R8, all are comparable in price and more desirable in every possible way.
Agree 100%.

This car is investment material much more than driving enthusiast material.
Cars as investments can be tricky. They usually have to be special not just low volume. If the market gets cynical a car can go out of fashion and desirability very quickly.

Wake me up when it steers like an E46, is as pretty as an E46 and has an engine to measure up to that in the E46.

What?! I thought the E46 had pretty crap steering. Likewise, the engine was fine but nothing special.

Have to agree about the E46 M3 engine it was nothing special, but I will say as a whole the E46 is a good steer.

We've seen it lots of times before that making what seems like small alterations can really refine and change a car completely. 24 seconds faster than the standard car has to mean something.

Lots of the bodywork and interior has changed too, even if it does'nt look too wild. The bonnet is now carbon, as is the adjustable front splitter, rear spoiler and rear diffuser. The interior is completely different, being covered in alacantra, with carbon seats and lightweight centre console, new door trims etc. Add a new sports titanium exhaust system, light alloys and OLED tailights and you're quickly stacking up quite a hefty bill.

I don't think the price is outrageous. The 991 Carrera S laps the ring in 7:37.90, with the 991 GT3 RS lapping in 7:20. Thats only a 17 second difference and you're looking at a similar price differential between the two models there.

At the end of the day, if you want the ultimate trim/spec level of a certain car, you're always going to pay a premium for that.

The 07:52 time for the standard car is not a BMW official time. Pretty sure if you put larger and stickier cup tyres on the standard car you might get 10 seconds.

Impressive stats and abilities, but I agree it's no looker and the standard car looks better.

You are kidding aren't you? The S54 is acknowledged as one of the finest N/A 6 cyls ever produced and in my view one of the best engines ever made

Second that, the S54, especially in CSL tune was a masterpiece as was the S65 V8 and the S85 V10 (see a pattern here, all high revving N\A). NOTHING BMW has produced since can compare, you can stick your diesel-alike turbo engines.

I can't believe people actually prefer them to the previous N\A's but I suppose you can tell your mates at the pub it has more power\torque and can do 5mpg more so that's OK. rolleyes

The M2 being announced next week strikes me as a much more exciting 'real world' BMW.

Manual transmission, great chassis, 4 seats, 360hp(ish, hopefully?), £44k price point. At that price its a very compelling alternative for those who missed out on securing Cayman GT4's!
I think there's a good chance that the M2 will be more fun on the road than the GT4, and that's coming me with a GT4 scheduled for delivery in March. There's little doubt that a GT4 will demolish a M2 on the track, but a nice FRR 4 door mini-M2 would make a much better daily driver and "moves around" on the road at more sensible speeds.
1M Coupe vs Cayman R continued...

Meh.

Investment? You're having a laugh. Put the money into property.

Driving experience? Another laugh. How many different ways would you like to be faster around a track? GTR. Even a standard one will more than suffice, and then there's the Nismo for those who want to go further.

I wouldn't mind so much, as it gets us away from the 247th version of Porsche the fanbois get themselves moist over, except for the CTH (crashed-through-Halfords) look.

On the absurd assumption that any driver could drive both at 10/10ths, what would be the gap ? 0.1sec ? 1 sec ? 5 sec? Is the word demolish really accurate ?

I hope the M2 will be good but I see two problems with it.

1. From spy-shots it still looks like it has the odd proportions which stopped me falling in love with the 1M. I can't quiet put my finger on it but it looks too high and not wide enough, I hope it looks better in the flesh.

2. BMW did quite well in pepping up their standard 3 litre turbo unit for the 1M but it still wasn't special enough for an M car IMO and this is going to have a similar engine. I really hope they can give the M2 powerplant some more zing which takes it over that final hurdle of merely being very good to awesome.
