I suppose I could just buy an older barge like an E something M5. These are about the size of today's small cars.
I've just got rid of my beloved but suicidal Vel Satis so I'm pining for the fjords.

I've promised myself never to launch a 'what car' thread so this isn't one. I'm 'just looking' and could just as easily buy a hot rodded American 1950's pick up as a luxury small car.

Something like the new Auris Hybrid in top spec would be a good choice IMO.
I know it won't be everybodys choice but it's a smallish car, auto, refined especially in town on electric power. Has all the toys you need and has a solid feel to it.
Or as someone suggested earlier, a Lexus CT, which is an Auris hybrid with a Lexus badge and a bit more bling. Not that highly rated, but certainly does the 'Luxury Small(ish) Car' thing.

Sorry MB, but that is a very bad suggestion. I was given one as a courtesy car and they are TERRIBLE!!! Harsh ride and a horrible place to be.

You'll get most of that on Ford Focus now.

  • Self parking
  • Adaptive Cruise
  • Lane Keep Assist
  • Speed limit sign recognition
  • Reverse camera
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Dual climate
  • Electric start
  • Heated seats
  • Electric driver's seat
  • Leather
  • Auto lights with auto high beam
.

Absolutely - our new Focus Estate is packed to the rafters with interactive tech, we've got all the above plus the 8" touchscreen which does EVERYTHING.

The only thing that isn't luxurious is the hatchback suspension on 17" wheels. You won't get 6 series wafting but everything else is as you would want from a luxobarge. The fit and finish isn't the same, it's whether that bothers you or not.

Fears confirmed then. Wife's car is up for changing next year and she likes the sound of them, but I haven't read much good about them from the little I've looked.

It reads it & always shows the speed limit in the dash.

This is what someone has specced on mine. The only thing missing was cruise control, and I had that fitted.

But a lot wider. Was quite surprised, so I snapped this photo at lunch time.

Look how much the Evoque sticks out over the parking bay. The car in front of it is a Honda Civic. Both cars are parked the same distance from the curb.

Thats a lovely looking motor 300. Never seen a baby overfinch before, its always the big 5.0 full fat RRovers that the aftermarket folk go for.

Well if it's wheelbase you want, then you simply won't get a long wheelbase in a short car. So that probably fully answers the op's question. biggrin
Pretty much. You can paint a council house in Farrow and Ball and fill it with leather sofas and high end AV kit but it will always feel like a council house.

It's the fit and finish though which moves a car into the luxury segment.

That's what I was trying to say in roundabout way

I've often thought the same thing... But instead of tech i'vs womdered why small cars cant be wider. Surely this is where most if the comfort is in a bigger car (obviously previous comments about wheelbase make sense but cant be applied to a small car)

I hired a last gen corsa and everytime i changed gear my wifes arm got in the way because the seats were so close together. Borderline dangerous.

Not that I'm calling this a luxury car, but the AMC Pacer was exactly what you are saying. It was a short wide car.

Bristol tried this with the 404, a small car with the power and trim of the larger models but it didnt sell well at all. About 50, if I recall.

I know it's not small like a fiesta/polo for example but I would go for an IS250SE-L auto, the top spec one.
Not that big but super smooth straight 6, great build, masses of modern gadgets and an epic sound system too!
Get a nice one for about 6k or even less if mileage doesn't bother you.
