that could be the the ferrari, i don't know, haven't had the chance to drive any yet.
Oh yes, me too, and like you I haven't tried any of these three. I'm just postulating that if money was no object then for me personally (and probably Scuffers, and you too), we wouldn't necessarily end up with the fastest car - we might do, but we might not smile

with that money i'd buy a Land Cruiser.

Hell, trailer plus garage with Caterham, Radical, FF, Lotus etc AND still have change!

I think that's the point, great as these supercars are, if you want to go round a track fast, they really are not the right tool for the job.

problem is, what exactly are they good at? realistically on public roads, they are wasted, and on a track they get wasted by a second-hand formula car (for example, 55 sec's anyone? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ykv1UmLrsTw).

2 seconds faster than a touring car? What have you done to your Exige?
Well that's kind of cheating, now isn't it?!
You did ask what he'd done to it! hehe

yes Precisely my point, but I guess everyone has different priorities and gets different enjoyment out of cars. Some people, like me, prefer to own multiple cars that focus their abilities towards one job at a time, whereas others like to own supreme all rounders, like a sort of Decathlete of the car world. The P1, 918 etc offer that latter compromise.

If it was, say, 1am and I had to get from London to Edinburgh really quickly then I would choose one of these.
I'd also rate my chances of not getting caught at 60-70%.

realistically, if you were going to do this, you would be faster in something like an A8 TDi

fuel stops are a real killer if you after clocking an A-B time.

and whilst not up to P1 performance standards, plenty fast enough for UK roads.

These are stunning technical achievements, and it is interesting how close they are. As people have said, different track, different driver or just different day could have totally changed that order.

Interestingly it seems we have reached the point where many things are better than most people will ever need. "Normal" cars are now fast enough that super cars are pointless on the road. Same with things like computers. It used to be the case that you needed to update your PC all the time to keep up with even day to day tasks, but now we have reached a point where only the dedicated need more than a small laptop. You no longer need the latest phone to get an acceptable feature set. 3D TV and 4k TV are not taking off as we have reached a point where the tech is good enough. I feel like we are soon going to have a revolution in technology where we stop pushing at the cutting edge but start to improve user interfaces and uptake.

I'd chose a big barge with a big engine and a big fuel tank that could go up the A1 in comfort at just as high a speed. Or the train, as you would struggle to beat 4h25 to cover 400 miles, what with fuel stops and the like.
