hmm, I think it was edited though
also looking at the fuel gauge earlier in the clip the needle looks past empty, they were probably close to running out of fuel which would have saved their lives!
Its some length to go to in order to avoid topping up at UK pump prices, I'll give them that.also looking at the fuel gauge earlier in the clip the needle looks past empty, they were probably close to running out of fuel which would have saved their lives!

Just putting it out there that these might have been nice lads totally altered by the drugs.
Would have been better if they'd crashed at low speed and been arrested.
Nice lads who took a cocktail of drugs and decided to get behind the wheel afterwards....sure. Just be grateful that they didn't take anyone else with them. Feel slightly sorry for the guy in the passenger seat who was heard a number of times saying "slow down". Can't imagine the feeling of being a passenger in your own car with no control over your destiny (leaving out the stupidity of putting someone without a licence in charge of your car whilst being a passenger).Would have been better if they'd crashed at low speed and been arrested.
For those who asked, I'm fairly sure it's edited at the end so that we don't see the impact or hear the "oh st"s.

He was also saying "keep going" a lot too, sounded to me like he was trying to take a co-driver role to get his mate going as fast as possible. Didn't sound like any of the "slow downs" had any panic behind them, same tone as "just go round it".Skii said:
Do we know if the wall was ok?
No, the wall was demolished in the accident and is still in the process of being rebuilt. Its an old sandstone block wall, about 3ft high and 18 inches thick. It wasn't in the best condition before being hit. I go past the site most days.It would be nice to say that the local idiots have learnt from this accident but they haven't. Only at the weekend some idiot was driving through red lights at "The Cross" (which is the junction of the A26 and the road on which this accident occured) doing a handbrake turn and returning back through the red lights. All witnessed by a friend who stopped to ensure they weren't hit, but unfortunately didn't call the police.
The reality is that traffic cars are rarely seen in Crowborough, and its mainly PCSOs on duty, and at night we'll have 2 police cars covering a vast rural area so the chances of idiots getting caught is remote.
In this case it appears they were driving from Rotherfield in to Crowborough and back, Rotherfield is a small village, the road twists and turns down the hill enters the town of Crowborough just before where the accident occured. The lads came down the hill from Rotherfield, came into Crowborough at Jarvis Brook, went under the railway bridge and up the hill, before turning around and coming back.
The road dips under the rail bridge, and there is also a slight bump just after you come out from the dip, I saw a Mercedes wiggle the other day when it hit it at an illegal speed. Suspect that even the best driver would find it difficult to get a Clio through there at 90.
Needless to say the immediate reaction locally was that speed limits should be reduced etc. However as in many cases of local fatal accidents the car was going well in excess of the speed limit so reducing limits only affects the law abiding.
It was luck that they didn't take anyone else out in their activities and for that we have to be grateful. Those who saw the immediate aftermath of the accident have to live with it for the rest of their lives, and I know one of them.

Report says they died instantly, as does the linked report that says an off duty firefighter attended and observed no pulse. Guess the Police edited out the death rattles.Tough to have much sympathy to be honest, was lucky that no one innocent was involved. You'd think a father-of-one would have a bit more sense, but I don't know why especially one would think that when all the evidence out there suggests otherwise.

A smaller wall than I thought it would have been...
Yes its not a particularly big wall. If you look on google street view you will see there was a pillar at the end of the wall, and there was also the other side of the entrance to the church where the picture was taken from. My understanding was that the car hit the wall the photo is showing then spun and hit the pillar on the other side of the entrance where the photo is taken from. It may well have been on its roof when it hit the walls.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
