I just went for Clapham, I might be wrong smile

The interesting thing is that there's no monthly payment option, it's all loaded upfront. I still feel a bit ripped off by my insurance, but it's nothing compared to that!

Wow okay, that's definitely something to consider. We are both open to looking outside of London which should hopefully bring the price down. Definitely food for thought though.

The issue isnt necessarily because London, though not being in London will help bring it down a little, it's that you're 20, going to be an international driver who has no experience of UK roads, hasnt got any no claims bonus to put towards a policy and is looking at a sporty car.

You might get cheaper quotes by buying a stter and living somewhere more remote, but then you're limiting your life choices because of car insurance and that's dumb. Wherever you end up it's still going to fk you on the upfront premium

I dont work in insurance or anything, but whatever you choose is going to cost you a couple of grand to insure and you'll need to find that as well as the price of the car you choose.

No, don't look to live outside of London (unless your career is location specific - what do you actually do?). You are 20. Live in zone 1-2 and make the most of your time here. You have the rest of your life to live somewhere else and blow money on cars hehe

That depends what you enjoy in life. At 20 London has more opportunity and good nights out, yes, but if you like the outdoors for example (i.e. outdoor sports, or even just fresh air), London's pretty crap for that! smile

That being the case, you'd be much bet served in Australia, for outdoor sports, or even just fresh air hehe

Nice car. Problem is insuring it, it's going to cost you that price again to insure it. Here's a sample quote I just ran for you based on a few assumptions

Google for rentals, seriously
For an early 20's Aus licence holder the major challenge will be getting anyone at all to insure you, then when you find one expect to be poked in the eye with a burnt stick when the quote comes through.

UK insurance is nothing like Aus insurance, in the UK the driver is insured for a car, not the car being insured for all and sundry. And you must be insured. No driving without insurance or they will kick your arse, fine your arse, and make your arse walk home as they take your car.

Yes the purchase prices are fantasy like for an australian coming over, it's the rego and insurance that will bring you back down to reality. And the running costs when you are here. Parking in london on a budget? Better buy a lotto ticket as you have as much chance with either.

If you have the money, sure, buy what you want, run it for as long as you need and ship it back home. On a budget? Rent when you need it. Public transport is pretty damn good in the UK and Europe.

So it seems like I should give it a bit more thought than I had originally planned.

The plan is to go over there and work casually in any field at the moment, neither of us are fussy as we are just going over to experience new things so we aren't bound to a particular location or job, etc.

I really appreciate everyone's input though, it's very helpful!
