No competition!
I'm getting a bit obsessed with leases, but when you consider the discounts achieved via the likes of Orangewheels or DTD, I wonder if a more sensible option is to buy on a PCP scheme. Granted it may be a 3 year term rather than 2. At least at the end of it you have the option to buy, and if you're lucky it would be cheaper than current market value. If you then sold the car off and made a few thousand, you then deduct this off your rental charges.
A 2 year lease on the sort of car I'm after is going to cost me around £12-13k. The £56k Audi I want can be had for £41k. Based on current pricing, I estimate it to still be worth £30k in 3 years time. So that's £11k over 3 years. In theory. Hopefully.
Oh, that's not included the finance costs...

From personal experience the challenge you will have is that there aren't many cash buyers looking for cars in the £30k bracket. Obviously there are some, but easy access to personal loans becomes harder over £20k, so it may take a while to sell, particularly as after 3 years it will no longer be in warranty. Some of the lease deals are stonking value, but it's often a case of just getting a bargain, rather than the car you actually wanted! Make sure you base your depreciation estimates on trade-in values rather than forecourt price, because a £30K car with no warranty left isn't going to be easy to sell privately. https://www.audi.co.uk/used-cars/part-exchange.htm...
Hi all,
I read this thread with great interest and envy each day as where I live, the cost of leasing a car is astronomical and reserved almost exclusively for business. I'm looking to move to the UK from Ireland before the end of the year and would be more attracted to leasing a car rather than buy as I only want to stay for 2-3 years.
Anyway, my question is how much is credit rating a factor in landing a car lease contract? As a recent arrival to the UK, I'm guessing not many providers will want to go near me as I hear some people even have trouble landing a mobile phone contract.....

These Yeti deals are crazy! Unfortunately so is my wife, as she is really cautious about DSG and anything she's unfamiliar with. We will have a look around one at the weekend but how long do these deals tend to last (I know - piece of string!)?
Got this e-mail from DSG Autocontract this morning...Good Morning,
Yesterday we emailed you the amazing offer on the Skoda Yeti Monte Carlo DSG.
Great News!!!!
We have now secured some manual gearbox Monte Carlo’s to go with the DSG deal we already have and they are even cheaper.
Be very quick these cars will not be here long. We are expecting both deals to end today.

mate of mine has been banging on about a PCP deal on a Kia Sportage something like £1500 deposit and then £170 a month 10k miles... i mean sounds ok cheap enough but i can't help but think it would be a) cheaper on a lease and b) there are far better cars available for barely any more money. What say you collective? I think it needs to be big booted, but that's about it.

See the stonking Yeti deals. This one's gone up a few hundred, but still a bargain for a range-topper.https://www.selectcarleasing.co.uk/car-leasing/sko...
Sorry guys, not a deal but figured someone on this thread would have an answer.
I ordered a Golf R this week and I really wish I added app-connect as an option. Are lease companies generally flexible when it comes to adding options shortly after the contract is signed? There is no order number yet and the guy I was dealing with is off on leave so need to wait until next week before I make the request.

i think app-connect is just software? - it can be activated once you have the car direct at a dealers if you pay the money...I ordered a Golf R this week and I really wish I added app-connect as an option. please someone confirm...
I just had a quote for Golf R 3 Dr DSG from Select. It looks like the standard deal for 3+23 15k/year via the website is £326.71/month, which i think is pretty good and it also includes metallic paint. I asked about the additional cost of maintenance and 19" alloys, and the quote they provided includes all three 'extras' (metallic/19s/maintenance) and comes in at £422.78 on a 3+23 15k PCH basis - all figures including VAT.
So, the bigger alloys and the maintenance (which to be fair includes tyres/brakes etc) is an extra £96/month - that seems a lot to pay over the term - i.e. in excess of £2400.
I am also waiting to hear back from Ultimate on the 435d M Sport Auto Cab.
Just to add....i am looking to get out of this slightly early as it is costing a lot more than the current A6 deals!

I did that calculation when getting a £30K list Tiguan last September. I was all set to lease for 3yrs at around £300/mth ~£11K total. GFV on PCP was £13K but I was of course told the car would be worth much more - indeed value of 3yr old similar cars on WBAC was £16,500.
Taking a PCP to get the deposit contribution, plus other discounts I bought the car for £24K and withdrew from the PCP to avoid the interest charges. I was thinking worst case it would cost £7,500 over 3yrs.
Then the emissions news hit. And I guess those discounts, which have been around for a couple of years on Tiguan, started to feed through. WBAC values on 3yr old cars now is around £12K but I don't know how realistic even that is - looking at Tiguan forums owners are getting horrible p/x valuations. Yet the muppets are still ordering the new one, often throwing £K's options at them.
