Maybe I should put it up for £10,000 O.F.O.
(or far offer)
I think if you were serious about selling it you would probably have taken that offer. I don't doubt that they are good cars, but the amount of decent buyers in the market for 15 year old 100k+ mile honda's is somewhat limited and you have probably turned your back on one there.(or far offer)

At £3850 you probably should have bitten his hand off, that's clearly a decent offer on an asking price of £4000. I always think it is stupid when people put up cars at a price and say "no offers". The psychology of a used car purchase for most is that they want to chip something off the asking price even if it is only as little as £150. If £4000 was the least you would take you should have put it up for £4250, which gives you room to give the buyer "some money off" and for you to get what you really want.
This is why I hate selling cars. If the seller says 'no offers' it means just that. When I was looking to sell my 130 I had the same. With the guy in front of me 'offering' me something. I always just say no. The next thing that happens is that you give a discount and then they want something else that you are not including. It is why I have sold to dealers and taken the hit, I can't be bothered with the BS.Rick_1138 said:
Having had a DC2 and now a DC5, it looks an okay car, but a few alarm bells ringing.
Having taken an absolute dump of a DC2 and restoring it to almost showroo, with now engine internals, suspension bushings and rebuilt the seats with recaro parts, ive seen all there is to see of what can go wrong and what breaks.
These are appreciating in value but £4k is a tad steep, (this is only going by what i can see), first bit that catches my eye, why does it have the wrong H badge on the nose (new ones are £30 but, ebay versions are cheap and nasty, the fact the rear still has its red H makes it look odd< especially with the slightly odd shut lines of the bumper.
Red rocker cover is almost not, yes its a cosmetic thing, but it makes the whole engine look tired, and is an easy fix with Frost VHT wrinkle paint.
seat bolster is collapsed, again an easy but expensive fix at £50 a time.
Scuiffs and tired paintwork would also have me looking hard for any rust bubbles, as all the rust hides inside the panels, as water gets in from the rear wheel as 2 panels meet with a slight gap where ALL the water gets shoved!!
Lovely cars though, miss my DC2 a lot.
I could be wrong but I reckon the price is ok personally. My DC2 was a '1997 import with a few light modifications (a positive to some, a negative to others), was sound mechanically but had more cosmetic issues than this one- seats were more tired, had a slight dent in corner of rear bumper as well as a few paint blemishes, front bumper very stone chipped, faded front H badge, a small scratch on bonnet, and a couple of marks where someone had gone to town with excess stickers which were subsequently removed. Front bumper also had two stains where cheap yellow 'running lights' had been fitted prior to my ownership and subsequently corroded. Oh and it had a serious bad case of the faded rear interior from the sun.Having taken an absolute dump of a DC2 and restoring it to almost showroo, with now engine internals, suspension bushings and rebuilt the seats with recaro parts, ive seen all there is to see of what can go wrong and what breaks.

I stuck it up at a speculative £3,800 (about £500 above the bottom of the market at the time) and I had provisionally sold it via PH in less than 24hours. The guy came to collect it (from Europe) the day after and paid me the full asking price. I had 3 other inquiries by the time the guy drove off in it and that was still less than 48hours after the advert had gone live.
I had likely undervalued it, but I needed a quick sale at the time and so wasn't too fussed. But it was certainly in noticeably worse cosmetic condition than this one, and only had approx 10k less miles.
I guess some of it comes down to the mods, or in the case of this one the lack of mods. The guy who brought mine said that my modified example was pretty much the exact spec he was after so he was willing to chuck me a sizable deposit and pay the full asking price to secure the car. Where-as if someone was after an original unmolested example they would probably have seen mine as overpriced.
I think for this example it's a case of finding a buyer for whom the originality is a big plus, because then I think £4k looks good value. To someone who wants to stick all sorts of goodies onto it (at further cost), this 'standard' example is probably going to look a bit pricey.
Definitely agree about the front H badge though, I recently replaced the one on my ATR and it makes such a huge difference to the way the car looks that it is the one issue I would certainly have resolved on the ITR before advertising if it was mine up for sale again.

OK so you had a price in mind, said right that's the least I will take no offers. People then offered you less, this annoyed you so you sold to a dealer for probably less than you were offered by the private buyers? Posted these pics a good few times on here, but can't say no to another opportunity! Only had her a year but loved it so much...

The DC2 always seems to get such a positive response from those that have owned them.
They are so involving to drive and come alive like very few cars do on a demanding B road. The harder you drive them the better they seem to get.
Sublime damping, gear change, brakes (for road use) and driving position. Others may disagree but I found decent steering feel as well. If I was being picky I would say I would have preferred a slightly quicker rack.
I sold mine and got into a K series Superlight Seven and I hold the DC2 in extremely high regard as a driving experience compared to the Seven, despite the Seven obviously being much rawer.
Wishing you all the very best with the sale. £4K looks like a very fair price to me. You're not asking £10K for it so I wouldn't expect it to be concours. Someone will be willing to pay £4K I have no doubt whatsoever.

I don't think you understand? If someone is reasonable then that's one thing, but when a car is a good spec, decent price and states 'no offers' I expect potential buyers not to try it on. It's so simple, here's a price, that's what I want..And yes, instead if fielding calls and emails like the ones above I took a loss. I also got the money, or trade in without fear of post sale scams or more importantly my time being wasted.
And what is with people running this guys car down without viewing or any knowledge of its history. Lovely bunch aren't we?

Not sure why anyone would buy this when you can lease a brand new Audi A3 for not much a month.
What are you doing on Pistonheads?Utterly sublime cars.
The only fwd that's come close is the Mugen CTR. They are so good I bought 2. A low ish mileage car that's locked up and a run-around 140,000 mile banger. Amazing cars, and everyone should experience that diff at work, and the slight opposite lock that's required on some corners.
Anyone who dismisses them because of the badge is seriously missing out.
