I thought this was an odd one

Advisory notice item(s)
Offside Front Anti-roll bar linkage has slight play in a ball joint (2.4.G.2)
Offside Rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (3.5.1g)
Offside Rear Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)

Test date 17 April 2015 Test Result Fail Odometer reading 161,296 miles Reason(s) for failure
Offside Rear Brake pipe excessively corroded (3.6.B.2c)

I have no idea how it has downgraded itself on the same day. hehe
MOT is a visual inspection. It is possible that it looked bad enough to be considered excessive, however the owner or the garage were able to clean it up and it was actually not that bad.

What does an MOT centre actually pay the Govt for MOT's?
Its about £2 per slot/mot. Mot testing centres buy blocks of slots from dvsa. Then there is a max charge specified for each class of vehicle but the garage can chose what price to set the mot as long as it doesn't exceed the max price for each class.

Just did a check on my old Mercedes Reg No AP07 HHO which I sent back to Mercedes finance in October 2011 with 312176 miles on the clock.

I had it MOT'd in March 2011 with 265,128 miles showing, and whoever bought it had it re tested on 4th December and the mileage had fallen to 79442, a mere clocking of at least 232725 miles, a testament to it's condition.

I left a note in a slightly difficult to spot nook when I sold it stating the mileage and who the service history was with, so I hope the new owner found out what had happened to it and got some sort of recompense.

I claim the record for a mileage reduction unless anyone else can do better wink

I wouldn't rely on that (alone); I've seen countless instances of the wrong milage being entered at MOT centres and main dealers. Check the rest of the cars history and see if anything else is amiss.

Ditto, could also be confused with another car due to plate changes, etc.
What do the MOT tests show after 2010?

All of the mileages recorded every year to the current one all follow on approx 10-15k a year up to the current mileage its being advertised at, so it wasn't a one off incorrectly entered figure in 2010. Also, why was it re-MOT'd a week after it passed? Only one reason for that, no doubt all of the paperwork prior to that was conveniently lost

Beat mine by some margin. An old Accord of mine was sold with 229k and popped up for MOT the following year with 115k. Unlike yours, that car looked/was shagged by 229k!

What a great site, it pleasingly just confirmed that my one owner showroom condition 325i did indeed do between 1k and 4k per annum for the first six years of it's life - unless the old chap did a mileage correction each year of course but if he did he timed it well for services also. Nothing but a couple of worn rear tyres to report to date.

Ive just checked a Golf R32, it was registered in 2007, but the MOT history only shows one previous test in 2015.
Could that be due to it being on a different plate from new?
I seem to remember reading there was an issue with the history site if it had been on different plates

Edit:

Just found http://www.ukvehicle.com and that shows you any plates linked to the car, I searched one it suggested and the rest of the history showed up.
Hopefully they will fix this on the site for different plates in future

Not sure if it's been mentioned elsewhere, but the site now just asks for a Registration number and offers the facility of an MoT expiry reminder by Email.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned elsewhere but the site now lists out which garage a car was MOTed at! Endless hours of fun hehe

That is a new addition.

I thought the removal of make and model was great.

Is there a word or phrase that describes the sneaky pleasure in checking someone else's MOST history, and maybe deriving their VIN number from the registration as well and poring over the build spec?

One of the MOT's on my old car seems to have moved location according to that!

Useful if you ever wanted to track down an old car, or a specific car... or the area someone lives in and when and where they get their car MOT'd. Great for stalkers!

It appears they may have blocked really high value plates from being shown and also placed a limit on the number of searches you can do (I just got kicked out for running through single-singles, which I've done before with no issues!)

I checked my old car, a silver BMW 530i RX52NXE

Looking at this site it says MOT expired yet looking at https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ViewVehicle it says it's taxed and MOT'ed

So it seems two government websites have inconsistent data

Would be interested to hear what happened to the car if anyone knows

Ha. Just found out that the "recommended garage" I took mine to failed my car on items that I knew about beforehand and asked them to carry out in the service before doing the MOT, and then retested it.

Another reason not to go back there.
Why wouldn't you go back there?
