Is this odd?

http://www.motor-hub.co.uk/used-cars/ford-escort-1... Mileage:125,000

MOT history of this vehicle
Test date
4 July 2015
Odometer reading 25,096 miles

And

http://www.motor-hub.co.uk/used-cars/ford-escort-2... Mileage:114,000
Test date 20 June 2015
Odometer reading 11,329 miles

The old one went down a couple of weeks ago due to the change to the new DVSA (I think), the new site no longer requires the MOT test number or the V5 reference number.
Just put the registration in and the make in then you get the MOT history, should make buying cars a little smoother.

https://mot-history.net/

Hmmmm, I would be suspicious of that site. All the sites from the DVLA ive seen have the. gov.uk moniker on them

Just saying.

Only thing I can think of is that the odometers only have 5 digits, so have gone back to 00000. I would have thought they both would have 6 digit ones though?

This is brilliant. Nearly bid on a cheap E46 M3 on eBay the other day.

Quite glad I didn't as MOT from the 12th October says the following fail reasons:

Test date12 October 2015 Test ResultFail Odometer reading131,156 miles MOT test number4622 8855 7050 Reason(s) for failure
Body or chassis is cracked, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings (6.1.B.2)
Advisory notice item(s)
offside front Suspension arm has slight play in a ball joint (2.4.G.2)

But strangely the car is advertised with an MOT. This is because it was MOTd back on the 31st March and passed but with the below advisories:

Test date31 March 2015 Expiry date30 March 2016 Test ResultPass Odometer reading118,027 miles MOT test number1953 7069 5490 Advisory notice item(s)
Nearside Front Tyre worn close to the legal limit (4.1.E.1)
Nearside Rear Tyre worn close to the legal limit (4.1.E.1)
Oil leak from rear differential.
Under-trays fitted obscuring some underside components
Engine covers fitted obscuring some components in the engine bay
Noise from propshaft area when taking up drive.

So it looks like someone probably picked it up cheap, stuck it through another MOT for some reason then has punted it on after the fail?

I noticed that as well but the data seems accurate based on the MOT results from the cars I have owned.

Doesn't seem to work for personalised plates, can anyone else confirm?
It can't find mine on its private plate, but does on its original number.
Also has it down as a diesel not petrol

Wouldn't worry about that, basically to get onto the gov.uk the site has to meet certain criteria... so the site has to go into beta and be evaluated
and only if it gets approved by the GDS does it get to go on gov.uk

Here's the gov page about the process.

Checked my previous cars, it seems they all fell into an unroad worthy state despite some of them being moderately expensive.

Who puts a car into for an MOT with several noticable failures e.g. no dipped beam bulbs etc.

One car failed its MOT in January but its taxed and insured, so presumably is being driven around!

Both my old BMW and my friends arent recognised on there which is odd. They must've had private plates at some point. Mine did have my private plate on, but when I put it in it comes up as my Current car (which is correct).

It's not the DVLA that handle it (like the previous ones) the newly formed DVSA do.

Mot manual and guidance here if you want to understand the checks.

I.e. you can follow the refrence like 2.4.G.2 to the relevant part of the mot rules and understand thechecks to be done and acceptable tolerances etc.

For anyone worried about sellers hiding their reg numbers, there is a trick on ebay at least to figure out the reg number anyway, but it relies on the seller providing the reg number to ebay.

Click the link next to the censored reg number - "Get the Vehicle Status Report"

In the URL it goes to, copy the highlighted text and replace %3D with =

Run this through a base64 decoder, like https://www.base64decode.org/ et voila!

Knew that mot with no advisory notices on that old v40 I had was nonsense. Just 7 days before it passed with flying colours, it failed on 2 busted CV joints and a major leak in the exhaust. And the handbrake was weak as st.

When I bought it after its "pass" it still had 2 buggered CV joints and a blowing exhaust! That I had to eventually replace when it blew apart under heavy acceleration!

Great find, bookmarked.

Just went over some old cars, seems one of my old MX5's is dead frown No sign of it on askmid or dvla tax check either, only sold it just over a year ago. The one prior to that is still going strong at 13 years old and just under 100,000 miles which is nice to know.

Just checked my former Series 2 RS Turbo that I sold a few years back.

Looks like the bedroom trader that I noticed had the car 3 years ago on an eBay listing must have done a bit of mileage adjustment, and probably service history falsification, if the last 3 years mileage records are to be believed. The car appears to have gone down from 101k odd when I last had it, to about 53k on its last MOT in April this year.
