I'm not having a go at you, and I'll always have sympathy for anyone who has to operate an hgv in London 'cos I imagine it'd be pretty horrendous, but surely you have to admit that when the facts are looked into concerning the drivers who have flattened cyclists - and I know the cyclists may be unaware of blind spots (just like the vast majority of drivers are) - but when it keeps turning out that the driver was on the phone or had no licence or had stopped in the ASL or drove clean over the cyclist who was right in front of him, then all the well-intentioned hard work by the haulage industry goes down the pan, doesn't it?
That's probably the most bizarre thing I have read on here.

And have you suggested any improvements for motorists in the same way you suggest improvements for cyclists?
Isn't there a system already in place for motorists that get caught ?

Not from me. I even suggest in this thread I see shocking driving from HGV's and cars.

Fire up another thread and we can all have a go.

This thread is just going round in circles, some still refusing to admit that both sides are responsible for road safety.

Why do I need to fire up another thread? This one was about a poor overtake followed by a ridiculous reaction. If it's ok to use this thread to recommend improvements to cyclists, then why not motorists as well?

How about for the vast majority that don't?

Why don't motorists copy what cyclists have to go through...

License with formal test
Road TAX
MOT
Insurance

Oh hang on

How about for the vast majority that don't?
How about the minority of cyclists that do endanger their own lives and don't get injured ? Which I believe is being spoken about.

How do we know that the driver in this thread made a bad overtake ?

From the link

She said a cyclist thumped the car roof as he passed and when the car overtook him she leaned out of the window and told him to be more considerate.
Moments later, the cyclist caught up with the car and smashed the window.
"It was terrifying," Miss Gautama said.

We don't know what happened before the cyclist over took and hit the car roof.

You should try N,P and E, because this doesn't even scratch the surface.

Why have you missed out the bit where she said "I guess, in hindsight, the cyclist may have thought we were too far on his side of the road"?

Yeah, but that's not her saying I was too close. Read it again

Maybe, but in a story that only has one side told, the fact that she mentioned it implies to me that it's part of the back story.

How about the one where motorists give cyclists enough room when overtaking?

Ok, here you go

"I guess, in hindsight the cyclist may have thought we were too far on his side of the road and there wasn't enough room to get past us, but he still managed to cycle past us."

It doesn't mention a poor over take by the driver? Was the driver in a cycle lane ? Was the cyclist travelling in the opposite direction ?

If anything it sounds like a poor undertake by the cyclist, a bang on the roof then a smashed window, thats only speculation though as I wasn't there.

Didn't you originally share the same view, that the driver was probably too close? So were you there as well? ;-)

To save you time, you can add dozens and dozens of examples to this list and I will agree with every single one of them. I'm not going to defend bad motorists. You obviously want bad drivers to keep away from cyclists and rightly so. All I want is bad cyclists to keep away from me.
