How did you get on with the engine management? I ran an elbow in mine for a bit (to make room for the air ducts I have running into the wheel wells) but it made the readings back from the MAF wobble all over the place on constant throttle.
Mine is running the Litchfield map, which I believe is done on an Ecutek. I don't have an ECU interrogator so can't see the values, but have noticed only a slight lumpiness as idle - and it was like that before I did the snorkus delete so no change really. I have yet to get it back on the dyno and see if anything has changed since it was last run, can report back once I get round to that.

Thanks all for the interest, exciting times!

Modding? Officially it'll be remaining standard. So I'm in no way reading stories of snorklectomy info or exhaust advice. whistle

And Tickle, I'm afraid you got me mixed up with the other Dan - he's the one with the Lotus so my home fleet will be the Forester and my Eunos. All JDM, amusingly!

Tell me that £48K insurance quote wasn't real too!

More when the car arrives in a month's time or so.

Cheers!

Dan

So 280bhp and 1500kg, will be reasonably quick. Are there any cheapish mods to push the power up without mad expense - what's the limit on the standard turbo?
I think Subaru quote 5.1 to 60 as standard, happy to be corrected.

A turbo back exhaust and race cat, or for a little less a 3" downpipe and sport cat, with a remap will see 330bhp and a 4.8 to 60, the turbo is this model only, a VF41, and its a given that its long life limit is about 370-380bhp, though I know a chap who has been running 410 for a while now with a big big intercooler and no issues.
Thanks, interesting stuff. Though the 4wd flatters the 0-60, 330bhp pushing 1500kg would be decent performance. Any idea what the chap who is running 410 has done, other than the mahoosive intercooler?

Dan - any plans? If it's currently a "no" then let us know when you change your mind!
Oh absolutely, AWD is always going to do that... well launch or bog depending on how much you like your clutch! But the couple of times I've played at 'emergency start' it is a proper giggle! A couple of mates call it 'the silencer' as I managed to shut a one of them up mid sentence with the same!

Performance is definitely available throughout though, most 20mph increases in speed are a 2 second toe flex away, which is nice.
I'm pretty sure, but will ask, that its just intercooler, fuel pump, exhaust and turn the electronic wick up a lot. Same guy is running a 500 or so Impreza as a track weapon.
Thanks - I used to have a 2000MY impreza, only a "Turbo 2000", but still able to do the party trick of starting like you'd just been rear-ended by a truck, good fun. These have not been on my radar but I'm more interested now!

£640, mods declared, off-street parking, in rural Surrey, with A-Plan Specialist schemes at Thatcham. That's with only 3 years no claims too, as my full NCB is on the other car (Z4M).

Renewing next month and will be doing the usual ring around.

You may already know, but just for the record, these are the two forum posts I followed in completing the removal.

http://www.scoobymods.com/showthread.php/forester-... (STI is identical to XT in this)
http://www.scoobymods.com/showthread.php/intake-si...

The plastic "plug" referred to (part number 46059FA000) is not needed but is neat and I can confirm that that part number is correct - I got one from my dealer and it was about £7 or something. For the foam gap blocker, I used this plus some duct tape. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00MZW6J88?psc=...

Love it. These have been on my radar for ages.... love the fact no-one (well, non pistonheaders) really knows what they are, the brutalist looks and the fact I can shove a bike in the back of it. Top that with the out of the box performance and *that* exhaust note.... hmmm, it's inevitable really wink

Not an STi but here is my lovely forester Turbo S. It gets 25mpg if I am lucky. It's also up for sale!

It's a shed, cost a little more than shed money and has issues but I still love it. It's never let me down, gets everywhere I need it to get too (Some ground clearance issues) and never ever got stuck anywhere.

It's commonly known as a the poacher mobile due to a warning in our local parish news letter about it been seen around with gundogs in the back (they do have that kind of reputation). Enjoy your STi version.

I bought my STI from RASP in June, what a superb car and service, would definitely recommend them if you want to buy something similar. OMA performance tuning in Northern Ireland say it's one of the best they've seen.

Is the rear subframe rot reserved for the sf5 model only or do the newer versions suffer as well? I made the mistake of doing mine last year and not doing a refresh on the front end, it would go from comedy under steer to over steer in a heartbeat

A liberal waxoyl treatment is a good idea for any fresh import. Not sure on the subframe specifically though.

The other known Achilles heel of the XT (which STIs useful avoid) is saggy rear self-levelling suspension.

Saggy or very badly knocking. I test drove one and the dealer insisted it was a loose bit of trim. Not a cheap item from the dealer either.

I drove past a heavily laden and presumably broken XT on a motorway once that looked like a dog dragging its rear along the carpet. smile

I've written a brief thing on silencing 'sti rattle' on my readers cars thread. The prospect of replacing the dampers genuinely makes changing to tein adaptive the cheaper prospect :-)

My XT just ticked over 135k today. Zero issues on any MOT since it was new in 2003. They really do not make them like this any more.
