Just been looking at Car and Classic website.

Breaks my heart to see all those cars that I once owned going for thousands of pounds. If only I had owned an aircraft hanger to store them all instead of selling them. I'd be rich I tells ya.

If you could have stored one, what would it be.

For me it would be my mint MK2 Escort Harrier. Can't remember how much I sold it for now (peanuts)but I would need £25k to buy it back today.

Never seen an Escort Harrier before, lovely! The stripes set it off very nicely, just like an Alpina. biggrin

I've had some fancy vehicles but if you add up storage, tax, Mots, servicing, I'll bet most of them would just about break even after a decade or two of ownership.

There are plenty of cars I should've bought knowing what I know now. I nearly bought an E30 Evo Spot for £6500 around 2000 ish but it was a bit of a dog. When I was a nipper I had a rust free Mk1 escort for burning around the fields. That was £50. Ho hum.

Ooooh very nice. 3.0S my lord. Always dreamed of owning a 2.0S like my friend had. Wonderful machines. I only ever had a MK1 Capri (first car) but wouldn't mind that back today smile

No I'm talking about if you lived with a bit of space for storage, ie cost you nothing, which one's would you have shrink wrapped smile

And yeh, if I had known I would have had a barn full of MK1 escorts, stacked three high, would have paid for my retirement I reckon smile They were for nothing back in the day.

Don't know what ya got till it's gone. Sigh.

p.s.Yeah I know you were being sarcastic, but my point is I didn't know how special that car was. Or going to be. Only 1000 made, seemed pretty ordinary to me at the time as well. Now worth a small fortune. Ho hum

Nothing super special, but MX-3 V6, I think would be a different classic.

The Series 2 Escort RS Turbo I owned a few years back. Sold about a year before prices started heading upwards and I'd be looking at spending £6k+ on a similar condition RST in the current market.

I'm currently selling my old Saab 900 due to lack of space/use. A few years ago there were plenty around for a few hundred quid, now you can find them for 1-5 grand or more. I'd store it if I could, along with the old 9000 I had a couple of years ago.

Back in the early 80s I guess. Escorts were pretty cheap - friends and I used to buy old Mk1 and 2 Escorts for a few hundred quid to use over winter and the muddy and salty roads - fun to drive on the back roads and dead easy to maintain
RS2000s were £2k for a decent one - they haven't gone up like a £5k RS1800 though

To be honest something like the old 911s - 964RS - have gained far more money in a shorter space of time if you just want to get a big return

It was just a white Mk2 Scrote with stripes, and a mild dip into the RS accessories catalogue, wasn't it? The scene tax on '70s Fords really is crazy.

A Mk 1 Escort Mexico, in genuine Copper Bronze and with a stack of AVO paperwork.

Sold it to fund a Mk 3 RS1600i - worst car selling decision I ever made..
