Which car from your past do you wished you could have stored
Discussion
I ran an Alfa GTV Cup for about five years - was a bit special. I sold it looking a bit tired for £4k. One just came up at auction for £10k.
However......my father had a DB4 volante and sold it for peanuts when I was born as he couldn't justify it anymore. It sold at auction last year for over £700k.
I still believe I was a better investment.....
Fave car I miss - moderately tuned Mazda 6MPS. It was worth tuppence hap'ney but it went like a rocket, handled well, and looked like a boggo saloon. Total wolf in sheep's clothing. Scared the living daylights out of my wife on a daily basis. Was wonderful. I have a Lotus Evora S now and I still wish I had the Mazda back.

How about a 10,000 mile Griff 500 for £19,000?
Or maybe a 7800 mile 328 for £33,000?
Or a 20,000 mile 3.2 GTV for £9000?
Or one of only 135 Silk 700s for £3950?
How about a 12,000 mile original Mini for £2600?
Perhaps a concours 40,000 mile 2.8 Capri. Never painted, never welded.... £5000.
But the worst of all was a rusty Innocenti Mini Cooper 1300, which I cut up with an angle grinder and took to the council tip. Then sent the log book back to Swansea.

1991 Mk2 Golf GTI 16V.
Bought in Feb 2012, sold in September 2012. During the intervening months I had the rusty rear doors replaced, suspension put back to stock, OEM injectors fitted, new BBS alloys, a thorough service - a lot of expensive TLC basically.
Sold it for what I paid (£1700) not including the considerable bills due to lack of use and the hassle of having to pick it up from my in-laws 5 miles away whenever I wanted to drive it. The bloke who bought it could barely keep the smile off his face; he knew it was a bit of a find.
Here it is at Goodwood next to my brother's run-out spec '92 8V GTI which he's now regretably selling.

I just went through all 8 pages and I think some people really missed the point.
There's cars on here you'd have to pay to have taken away if you still had them, not made a mint out of.
I can't say I've owned anything that would, at this time, be worth anything. I think maybe one day a good Clio 16v like I sold for £500 will be worth a lot of money but not for a long time yet. There aren't many left!
I sold a nice MR2 Turbo for £2,350 which seems to already be too little as there's hardly any available.
I wish I had bought certain cars - I could have had an E46 M3 when they had pretty much bottomed out but refused to pay over a grand insurance at 28. They're rapidly rising now. Double whammy, I could have made money and now unlikely to ever be back in the position to buy one.

Ones I should have kept hold of.
Phase 2 Renault 11 1.2 GL - Not a spot of rust and a great 1st car. The front seats literally folded voer to form a table. Perfect for the Mcdonalds tray! None of my friends had ever heard of it and it served me well. Head Gasket went and I scrapped it without a thought. Feel guilty looking back
MK1 Nova 1.3 SR - On the surface it looked immaculate, however all was not well underneath, like most. Bottom end went and I sold it for £50. I installed push button start in the ash tray after the 4th ignition barrel got ruined.
E36 M3 - Sold for just before they doubled in value I was scared of breaking it and not being able to afford the repair bills, despite looking after it. most of the options where ticked, including individual champagne interior. To this day I still prefer it over the E46 M3 I owned a few years later. S318 JVN?

I was in Bristol in 1998, and there was a slightly tatty Aston Martin DBS in a classic car dealership. At the time they weren't very well regarded. I can't remember what they were asking, but it was somewhere between £15K and £25K.
I remember mentioning it to my father, who said that I should buy something like that instead of a modern car, as it wouldn't depreciate the same.
Earlier this year I saw that a DBS will sell for £200K plus. I should have bought it!

My E34 525i SE, only BMW I've ever had. Only had it for a couple of months as a stop gap in 2011, sold it for £500 because they just changed the insurance laws that any taxed car had to be insured so needed to get shot of it when I'd bought a replacement. Only had about 107k on it, can't get another as good as that for less than £1500 now.

Makes me weep but (in order of disposal): 993 Turbo, 993 C2S, 930 (Martini) and last but by no means least is a 964RS bought for £30k used in Porsche Speed Championships for 2 years and sold for £50+. I thought that I was so smart - now £120+.......sob..
I sold my 993GT2 in 2008 for 105k. I thought I was being clever and I'd be able to pick another one up for half the price 6 months later... doh!Edited by anonymous-user on Thursday 26th May 14:28
My favourite was the TVR. A 1980 1600M, registration DBV 37W. DVLA site says it's been off road for a while. I'd have it back in a heart beat.
Others I miss that I couldn't justify keeping at the time, are a Subaru Impreza, a Renault5 GT Turbo, and a couple of Fiat 500s.
My silliest mistake financially was a Porsche 964RS. Paul Stephens had it for sale, I went over for a test drive, had the money in my pocket and insurance all set up. My wife had heard they were dangerous and prone to spinning around. I said "NAh, don't worry". Paul spun it on a roundabout. I listened to my wife and didn't buy it. Don't get me wrong I'm happy with my decision, I didn't like it then, and I certainly wouldn't buy it now a quarter million pounds. The price then was just £19,500.

Ford Ecsort XR3, ECM 120Y, metallic blue i bought it 1990, from a 1st time owner who worked as a quality control manager at the Ford factory in Speke. It had as you can imagine every single, and I mean every, factory upgrade that was possible, a few guys on the production line obviously owed him a favour!
This ones a 3i I think, but close enough. Captured my wife in this car, both were keepers, wish I still had the car too!

The only cars of note I ever owned were, ironically, my first two.
My first car was an Escort Mk.2 Mexico. Admittedly nowhere near as highly regarded as a Mk.1, and with good reason, but now knocking on the door of £20k. I sold mine for £400 back in 1991.
My second car was a TA22 Celica GT. It was originally owned by Win Percy but the damn thing literally rusted away around me, I literally gave it away to a guy who said he'd restore it. Apparently he did but I've never seen it since. The last one I saw for sale was in Spain and was about £30k... Saw a lovely rally spec one at Goodwood a couple of years ago. Really tugged on the heart strings. Of all the cars I've owned, that was the one that got away.

My mum had a Samba Rallye sometime in the mid 80s.
She part exchanged it for a maestro!
Wouldn't have a clue what they a worth these days as they're so rare. Probably not a massive amount.
My 1995 corrado vr6. 80k miles 2 owners. Sold for £3000 in 2012
