One of the first run of Mexico’s for homologation , no ape tape , or sound deadening , rubber mats no carpet
Re enforced front strut mounts , re enforced rear shock mounts , tail skid , basic vinyl seats .

My S2000. Too impractical to keep, and I didn't need the money. Had to sell it because I had nowhere to store it!

My first car - 1980 Mini HL. Bought totally original for £1,500 about 10 years ago. Sold a few years later for £1,900.

I've since found out it was written off, reshelled and then scrapped.

Still on the hunt for another mini, but prices are crazy!!!

The one that springs to mind is my Dad's 2 door Range Rover - CHT630V. Sold for under a grand.

I've run all my cars into the ground, so wouldn't be worth anything now. 5 years ago I had the money to buy an air cooled 911, but thought I should build a garage to store it in first. I thought I'd be able to buy one a few years down the line - boat well and truly missed.

oooof, lovely car. Hindsight is a mother fker unfortunately!

Only car I've really wanted to keep is still in my garage, 997 GT3. I was close to selling it when I was moving back to the UK, thankfully no one bought it or I would have been looking at a lot more to replace it now!

I would dearly like all of my cars back, but more because I'm a nostalgic bugger than anything!

Some that I have parted with are:

Sold this in 2008 for £7500 (1977 2.7)...probably worth at least £25k now

Sold this on 2009 for about £4500 - it only had 70K on it!

Sold this in 2011 for about £2250 - try finding one now for less than £8000!!

And I sold this in March for $6500 Canadian, about £3500...already wish I'd kept it..

The e21 and 911 are the ones I kick myself about the most...

rofl I think Henry wins! (ps everyone told you not to sell the yellow rs!)

I almost forgot, a family friend had a very low mileage E28 M5 that had sat in a garage for many years. She gave it to me in 2000 but it needed amongst other things a new engine ECU, 4 new tyres, and of course insurance which I couldn't afford. After a year I gave it her back! wtf!

Not as good/bad as some on here but every car that I've owned is now worth considerably more than I sold it for.
Fiesta Supersport £500
Xr4x4 £500
XR2 £700
Mk6 RS 2000 £1900
Standard 3 owner, 84k miles Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 £5500!
Insurance company paid out £1200 for my e36 328 coupe a year ago.

Ignoring the money, I liked all of them and would very happily still have them if I could.

1992 964RS amethyst bought for £18,500 in 1998, bought because it was the cheapest way into a 964 (regular Carrera 2s were £22-£25K) — stolen.

1991 964RS returned to the factory and built to cup car spec, maritime blue (welded cage, air jacks, aluminium doors etc) sold in 2003 for £22.5K

1989 964 C2 manual, dark blue with red interior, 50K miles. Bought for £17.5K and sold for the same a few months later in 2010 because I thought I'd paid too much for it.

Shouldn't have opened this topic. I need to sell a car and am now positive I'll choose the only one that immediately and inexplicably explodes in value.

Anyone who wants a car just to make money should be tied to an ants nest.

However if I could go back in time I'd like to stop my Dad from selling his new 2.8i black Capri. I wanted that car from the day we took delivery. It still saddens me that he sold it after a year. There is no way I'd pay the laughable current asking prices for a spare garage queen now though.

Watched Car SOS last night - Mk1 Astra GTE - I had one back in the 80's from new for 3 years and 45k miles. Carmine red and never missed a beat. Of all the cars I've owned that is the one I'd have back at the drop of a hat.

Ha, I bought a stolen recovered Mk 1 in Silver. Apparently the red white and black cars were built in Germany, the silver ones at Ellesmere Port in the UK. The silver ones rotted badly, the other colours didn't....

Whoever stole the car had bludgeoned the filler cap centre straight down the filler neck and into the tank itself. I spent several weeks driving around with the filler cap debris rattling around inside the tank.
In the end I had to drop the tank on my parents drive.
In doing so I spilt petrol all over the Tarmac drive and melted it, the folks weren't impressed ...

A couple of months later the car stranded me in the roadworks on the M5/6 interchange, by then I'd got bored with what was a bad example of the marque and sold it.

Two cars.

Had it 6 months before I wrote it off. Really regret that and am looking for another.

My first car. Had some great times and it was so easy to work on. I know they aren't special in general, but they were to me frown

For me it was my 200sx. Modified to an extent that many won't like here but it had a garrett gt28rs and ancillaries which mapped to about 320bhp. Didn't weigh too much, book figures show 1270kg, no traction control, manual and an LSD.

Did my first trackday in it, first visit to Santa pod (13.4@ 109 mph), did a few dodgy drift meets, taught me a lot. Sadly, when the family total reached 5 it had to go. Adored it.

I think you, my friend, need to drive some more cars. Wishing you could have stored and cherished a rattly old Pug diesel with a boat anchor of an engine because it ran on veg oil is a sign of madness. Do you have hairy palms too??
I've driven some wonderful cars and currently pilot an Elise, and I agree that these are oddly brilliant to drive. Had one as a hack years ago and there was something about the agricutural power delivery wrapped up in an excellent chassis that made it an absolute hoot at any speed. If I needed a cheap commuter I'd have one in a heartbeat.
