I sold my 993GT2 in 2008 for 105k. I thought I was being clever and I'd be able to pick another one up for half the price 6 months later... doh!

Were you a regular at track days at Donnington in the mid 2000's? RMA track days

Watched Car SOS last night - Mk1 Astra GTE - I had one back in the 80's from new for 3 years and 45k miles. Carmine red and never missed a beat. Of all the cars I've owned that is the one I'd have back at the drop of a hat.
Did you see EVO mag the other month - seems they actually quite liked it to drive - some nice pics too

Didn't see the article but I'm not surprised. The Mk1 was not perfect by any stretch of the imagination - it came on crappy Uniroyal tyres, a change to, the then new, Goodyear NCTs completely transformed the car; it was over geared with max speed available in 4th rather than 5th gear; and the front view was a bit bland but fitment of a replacement Hella grill with embedded driving lights made it quite handsome. It was panned a bit by the motoring press at the time mainly for understeer and the fact that it had a single overhead cam 8 valve engine when double overhead cam 16 valve engines were 'de rigueur ' - but that unit revved extremely freely to the red line and produced more mid range torque that the first gen 16 valvers

It was a very nice drive and the Recaro seats were the most comfortable seats I have experienced . . . . ever!

Going right back to the start of this thread - the Mk2 Escort Harrier had Recaros too - very comfortable unless you were a fat person

I was wondering what prices the good Chevette 2300HS were going for now. I can't tell if they're selling but it made me wish I'd kept mine!

Well worth hunting the article out for a peek Garvin - I had the Mk2 16v in burgundy ( similar to the Champions ) - terrific hot hatch for roads round here - very economical too. Would have liked a Mk1 in white like in the EVO article though

I've been lucky in that I have owned relatively few cars and have kept hold of the ones that meant something to me. I've got 2 TVRs and a Cortina 1600E, which was my first decent car. It was already 10 years old when I bought it in 1979.
Alas it languishes in a lockup waiting for the full resto it will undoubtedly need but may never get.

No need to apologise it was hugely entertaining to see a 993 GT2 entering the start/finish straight on full opposite lock!!! I was working for a Porsche & Ferrari dealer in Wilmslow and we were sponsoring Johnny Mowlem so in return he attempted to teach our clients how to drive on track in our demo 911 supplied by me. I saw some great cars on these RMA track days at Donnington.

Ah nice. If it looked like the driver just got really lucky it might have been me, if it looked like the driver had some actual skill it was probably the previous owner/hooligan, IMOM.

My first car at the age of 17, Capri MK2 1.6s in Signal Amber, bought it local back in 1985, loved that car;

My S1 RS Turbo, bought it back in 1990 from Mike Young Garage in Ilford for those old enough to remember. Owned it 4 years;

My first Cosworth, lovely standard example, 1 prior owner and low miles, bought it local back in 95';

My E30 M3 Cecotto, bought it back in 98', lovely condition and low miles. Owned it for 4 years;

My Integrale EVO 11, bought it back in 2005. Didn't own it long enough;

These are the five cars I wish I could of stored. Not just because some of them have soared in value but great cars to drive to me anyway in the era's I owned them.smile

yes

Friend bought his RS1800 from there - always had an ad in MN

They were supposed to be expensive but even in 1986, you couldn't find many RS1800s for sale

Around ten years ago I sold, via EBay my Lamborghini Countach LP5000S for just £35k, more recently (about 4 years ago) an Alfa Romeo Montreal; both r.h.d. cars. The Countach was simply too fragile, things would fail and be difficult to replace meaning it would be off the road 50% of the time - sort of car you need to just tuck away - but I have always preferred to use my exotics regularly. Most "useable" classic exotic I had was a 1974 Maserati Bora (sold that one too about 5 years ago).
