I do like the Conti GT and this model has some seriously impressive stats.

The earlier W12 models are now selling for as low as £25k, which seems a relative bargain!

I do envy (in a nice way) those who are lucky enough to drive one of these as their daily transport - must be a lovely place to spend time.

But they do with rather large running costs, and they're not going cost just £100 to fix little niggles - notorious for electrical issues on earlier ones!

???? Rear view camera not a standard equipment on a £168k car, really.

"it's limits are so beyond what you'll reach at road speeds it's more a case of enjoying occasional deployment of that outrageous horsepower"

That pretty much sums it up. I've got a 2009 Speed and the article is pretty accurate as to what they are like to own. The car comes into it's own when driving down to the South of France in waft mode, but lower the ride height, stiffen up the suspension and stick it in "sport" and it doesn't feel like such a big car after all.

p.s. Those £10,000 ceramic brakes are a must, seriously.

I've had my speed longer than any Ferrari /porsche or lambo I've had, truly great car that will keep up with anything on the road, and returned 28mpg on a trip to the south of France. And I'm not a footballer or drug dealer or city gent, just a simple electrician !

Thinking of moving from a Maserati Granturismo 4.7 to a facelift gt speed. Any advise regarding spec etc?

We had a 2010 Supersport cabrio. Fantastic engine, even better noise. As a package I never really rated it for some reason, though it did lurk around for seven years, so must have done something right.

Not really, although I would note if you dont have adaptive cruise you have have missing buttons off the steering wheel. Most people I dont think would notice. Lighter interior tend to sell better. Personally I would avoid black.

It's the get in and insulate yourself from the world whilst keeping up with almost anything else on the road, which really appeals.

Such a damn nice place to be, to go about your business.

I upgraded to a 2011 Supersports last year from the GT Speed. When I took the SS out for a test drive I came straight from one car into the other. It was really strange, the controls were in the same place but the car was totally alien. I put my foot down and the response made me laugh out loud. It's not like a Bentley at all, snappy gearchange and very firm ride, plus super quick. Huge fun.

Test drove a Speed at the weekend. Noticed a deep thrum sound for half a second from what appeared to be the exhaust when coming off the throttle. Is this normal?

Doesn't sound familiar. But then, each person's experience is different.

If you have the car in Sport, or boot it, all 12 cylinders come in and it sounds like thunder.

It did sound good but I was a little concerned about the thrum sound. Sounded like a diff knock for a split second. Salesman put it down to exhaust valve opening ??

I have one and it is not something I recognise.

They can do some odd stuff on lift-off. For example not slowing down immediately (eek) and shaking their head on some road surfaces, but the thrum doesn't sound familiar.

Perhaps you need to try another example.

That's my plan and what I told the salesman. Just need to track another down that's relatively local to me (Northants).

If you have no success I can see if I can record mine for you. You'd need to tell me exactly what conditions I am replicating though.
