Seeing that doesn't make me want it, just makes me want a takeaway delivery.
Hey, at least it would get to you quick... http://www.pistonheads.com/regulars/ph-fleet/honda...
I had a VTI Aerodeck for a couple years. I loved it; very unassuming, although definitely not fast by modern standards.
Hilarious lift-off oversteer in my 100K example. Mine was bulletproof - I was a student when I owned it so it went totally neglected. It never gave me any real issues.
I moved on to an Accord Type-R afterwards, which was another level of VTEC-hilarity.

"...but name us another family wagon that will be as reliable and quick (at the same time) as this, and as good an all-rounder, for an even grand or less."
E36 328i Tourings are still dirt cheap, mine cost me £750 before I started laying into it.
I have no doubt that you could find an A4 1.8T Avant for a similar price, and that'll be just as quick/practical.
The Honda does have a strange appeal to it, but I certainly prefer the hatch/coupé equivalents... one of those with a B18 in it would be just perfect.

The original car when new ran on Bridgestone Potenza RE080'S, Still got the original tyre on my spare wheel, unused. Very simila tyre to what they ran on the DC2 Integra TYPE R I think but may be corrected on that. Point is that they were sticky. Can't get them anymore so after a few false starts ended up with a compromise of all round performance and wear in Falken ZE912'S now ZE914'S. Just in case anyone was shopping for tyre's for one...;)
Your memory serves you well Adamskicouldnt believe when i logged on to have a look at pistonheads, to find the car I bought as shed of the week
I had it valeted today and its looking great, the bodywork is great even the rear arches are mint.
I needed a bigger car rather thsn the crx or my classic mini as we've had a baby, my original plan was to stick a roof rack on the mini for family duties
The seller was a chip shop owner who sells cars on the side, pretty sound guy in reality and there was plenty of paperwork and service history.
A little disappointed with the steering feedback and how much noisy pedal I need to give it, but at least the missus can drive it too.
Got a few subtle mods planned, but it will allow me to take the crx of the road and do the sills and replace the arch. All in all for a sensible family wagon its great.

Can I just gloat (again) over my £595 E39 535i shed? 99,975 miles at collection, and apart from springing a top hose off and breaking a window regulator, a year on it's been utterly faultless.
Bargain of the century, an absolute steal at £600. My father-in-law would sell internal organs for that, he's wanted one for years. As for the Aerodeck, I find it strangely appealing. It looks pony but with 8500 redline and 0-60 in 8secs I think its a fantastic shed if you need a cheap practical runabout. I'd have it myself if I could justify it. Often find myself searching for bargain Prelude 2.2 vti's too...

£750 E36 328i will likely have a terminal problem you discover 15 miles from the seller. I owned A4 1.8T (quattro) and the only time I saw it doing over 30mpg was when I was engine braking downhill..
Civic wins as a practical, quite reliable and cheap to run banger.
I bought that £750 328i in October 2012 and I'm still driving it now. It didn't need any major work for the first 6/7 months of ownership, and the only reason I laid into the clutch was because I couldn't abide the dual mass flywheel on it. I have no doubt that it would've been fine if left alone.Civic wins as a practical, quite reliable and cheap to run banger.
The A4 must've been broken- they're usually good for mid-30s if not tweaked.
Civic is a good contender, but not the *only* choice out there if you're after something remotely practical and quick. That was my point.
