I can say for a fact that's not the case with Schmee, as should be apparent from any of his videos. He absolutely loves cars, both the driving and the engineering behind them. He's a very long way from a show off.
From the few videos I've seen, they seem to show a bloke that's pretty clueless regarding engineering and the focus is on paint finishes and exhaust noise. His Mini broke down and he didn't even manage to figure out the fuel pump wasn't running. It's embarrassing IMO. If he does know how to drive, it doesn't come across well compared to other YouTubers like smoking tyre.

You don't need to know about cars to enjoy them and love them - everyone comes at it from a different angle. Jeremy Clarkson for example often says how he's mechanically inept, but that doesn't stop him loving the engineering behind them. You can enjoy a cello sonata without being able to play the cello..

I wasn't aware that Lewis Hamilton is in the business of fixing his cars or engineering them?

I've been driving performance cars for 30 years, I have zero interest in the oil bits, to me its like growing a cow just so you can eat a steak

iirc he said hit a bump/speed bump a little too harshly and there was some inertia sensor which shut the car down. the RAC person simply pressed a button on it to reset it. i had never heard of such a thing. though i'm sure if I owned one I'd read a manual on the car.

The inertia switch and jump start were two separate occasions. I'd be surprised if any car modern car didn't have one or a similar device, have seen them before on vw group cars.

You can trip the switch in the Cosworth if you drop the spare wheel hard enough! The first time I did it, it took me ages to figure out what the problem was.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing because it's very easy to realise what the problem was after the fact, but from the road side even the man looking at it took 30 mins before working out what it could be, and before that a good number of folks that I thought might know couldn't work it out on the phone when given the info that the car had ridden over quite a bump.

With the Ferrari, that was simply down to not having adequate tools (no other cars in my garage at the time were powerful enough to jump it), and the battery being kaput as it was, followed by being immediately replaced by Ferrari on warranty. C'est la vie!

I don't purport to have a strong mechanical knowledge of cars, I'll stick to the tech and understanding how things work that I need for my job - others can train to work on cars.

I'm amazed Shmee takes the time to respond to threads like this considering Pistonheads isn't even anywhere near as large as his youtube channel!

That's partly shame on pistonheads part as they have ample opportunities it seems and the knowledge and gear and contacts but seem to squander it! Heck they even ban me promoting my youtube channel on here yet happily let others do the same thing!

I would just ignore everyone on here shmee to be honest. I've watched a few of your videos, mainly the reviews and the "real world" cars you and your brand are obviously working si just get on with doing you.

It's not like anyone on here ever comes up with some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism for you now is it?

Well, there you have it. One fame seeker to another. Although Mr Polo didn't stand by his work therefore he gets a few points deducted.

Fame seeker? Now that is funny. If I wanted fame I would just kill someone famous. Done.

Totally reasonable, rational and well thought out response.... nothing worrying about that at all.

What would you call the infamous Polo driving masterclass video that you posted, then subsequently deleted..fun, art?

It's beyond me why people set out to be a contrived version of Jeremy Clarkson.

Oh come on, if conducting oneself like a very poor Clarkson imitation in public was to be outlawed the PH forums would grind to a halt !

biggrin

True, but IMO it's a whole new level of sadness to post stuff on Youtube that is entirely cringeworthy wink
