Where exactly do you think YouTube is going to go?
I get the feeling you just like posting comments without putting much thought in to what you type Alan.
Websites don't last forever and neither will YouTube. In 2006 MySpace used to get my visitors than Google did, now look. Facebook has had less views in 3 quarters than it has since 2013.I get the feeling you just like posting comments without putting much thought in to what you type Alan.
YouTube and Facebook are the second and third websites with the most global traffic going by Alexa. http://www.alexa.com/topsites
I think the videos are probably safest on there.

Do you know how long this very website has been going?

Again, MySpace was the biggest website on earth. It's just a fact that YouTube WILL NOT be around forever, everything loses popularity one day. Look what happened to Nokia. Look at Sega, The Impreza/Evo. Everything popular, no matter what will come to an end. YouTube is no exception. A lot of our clients who are in tech say in the next 15 years we won't have PC's and the internet and we know it now. Why wouldn't he back up his videos?YouTube and Facebook are the second and third websites with the most global traffic going by Alexa. http://www.alexa.com/topsites

You're right some things come and go, iPhone sales are on the down, Call of Duty is finally starting to die. Some things continue through though. MySpace died because it failed to innovate with the times. They made some bad choices. YouTube is continually improving its service, mostly. Their recent changes of terms including the use of bad language was a bit of a kick in the ass, but there is nothing but increase in the number of people wanting to upload video content online, and YouTube is the best place to do that right now.
You can't just say, because it's popular now it won't be in 10 years. What a bleak theory.

And I imagine that all videos on youtube were uploaded from "somewhere"... a hard disk, for example, so they'll always be there, even in the unlikely event of youtube disappearing.
I actually didn't think of that, good point Computers are pretty popular though, obviously we wont have them in 10 years.

I actually didn't think of that, good point Regarding the future of YouTube, there are so many unknowns that mostly lie in the hands of what the company itself wants to do. For example they can tweak settings or algorithms any time to point towards certain content types, and equally to crush content they don't want out there. The autos side has been struggling significantly since August as somebody, somewhere has directed traffic away so we're already trying to adapt to this one change - a relatively small one against what could be done.

YouTube sends traffic to where they can get the most ad revenue from, which is all that vine stuff that my kids watch. It'd be nice if they'd realise how important their informative channels are.Truckosaurus said:
This week's Smoking Tire podcast is worth a listen. Guest is Sam 'Seen Through Glass' and they discuss making YouTube videos and the financial realities thereof.
I thought the whole episode was great, Sam came across really well over audio. The discussion about the 'second generation' YouTube vloggers was very interesting and the antithesis of this thread...especially with regards to certain 'faces' of the scene.I appreciate how upfront Sam was about how he started out with the interest being making videos (and getting a free watch!) rather than being a car vlogger or having a deep nerd interest in cars themselves. That comes across in his videos anyway but it's pleasing to just be upfront about it.
As an aside, I thought it was a great episode of the podcast this week, Matt seemed energised and excited by the topics and it really flew by.
Just saw this video pop up, first i've seen where a youtuber gives specific figures on their earnings:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7WhQv77PW8
Quite interesting, as often estimated, the chap in the video i linked is earning $2 per 1000 views...
If we look at the likes of Shmees channel, 5.m million views in the last month.

Also shmee can you review something like a Renault 5 turbo 2 or even better buy something of that ilk!
I'm afraid to say that unfortunately there is very little global interest in that type of car so it just isn't worth trying. Yes, it would go down really well with this forum but that's a minority of the internet overall. Anyone know what happened to TGE Tom’s Cayman GT4? He’s picking up yet another new car today, and someone commented the GT4 is gone. Why and when? He only collected it 5 months ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGfgZjmuNkg
