Are these Vloggers just a scam? SOL or Shmee etc???????

My target is 6 good videos this year and it's going to be a mammoth task. Sod 6 in a week.
hence you employ 10 people I know Cassy Neistat had a team at the end, but he was doing 4m+ views a video so had the influence and income to do it. Tim is the biggest of the three and averaging around 150k a video. There is surely no scope for 10 employees at that end of the market!

The one thing I want to clarify is about the manufacturers, because I don't receive a penny from any of them or any discounts on cars or anything like that. Where we can work together is on things like the Road to GT8 video series where Aston Martin were able to offer some amazing opportunities (both personally and for the video element) with my car in build. I'm not expecting that level of access to ever be available again though! Contrary to common belief, McLaren have never had any financial involvement in any of my 4 cars.
When it comes to brands in the general automotive sphere, obviously there is a different relationship with every one of them so no two examples are the same. Dub Customs and I have basically become good friends and I pay for things there while still pumping out the content. Topaz naturally I work with on rates for the content and audience growth - as you would expect. Mountune provided me the package for my Focus RS in exchange for the video piece but because it's right up my street anyway I wouldn't think of asking them to pay for the exposure on top of that. Sometimes I work with brands where it's a little bit less natural (and trust me we turn down a huge amount more) but depending how far off topic it goes then you can expect the budget required increases dramatically.
So, the Topaz work is sponsored? Then the video should be labeled as such? When it comes to brands in the general automotive sphere, obviously there is a different relationship with every one of them so no two examples are the same. His videos are quite good but this is worth a watch https://youtu.be/fDqFFbfUb1M. He seems quite a sensible bloke to so pretty cringe worth when explaining it. He was lucky to come out the otherside off the hook.Shmee said:
Quickmoose, whether it's what you would do or not, I'm definitely loving the opportunity in front of me to test out and try all sorts of cars and ownership experiences. Some may make money, some will lose money, but there's a little more to it overall. Exciting cars are my passion and I'm in a strange position of having millions of people following what I do with them. The only cars I've sold recently are the LT to go into the newer LT Spider, and the GT4 to be replaced by something I've not yet shown. I would like to grow a collection but you only know what you really like and want by testing the waters, and let's be honest the most important things: it's fun and I can!
You are only a few cars away from being able to open your own show room :-)Thanks for taking us on your trip threw the cars you try and own. If you what to sell me stuff, go for it but my piggy bank will not quite stratch to GT8.

Paul sometimes has Alex shooting for him, but Sam does almost all his stuff on his own and he's uploading 4 times a week.

AFAIK the team casey had were the 'beme' team which were for the app he produced (ostensibly as a way to capitalise on his brand) but as for the daily vlogs, he filmed and edited them himself without any real assistance from others.I know Cassy Neistat had a team at the end, but he was doing 4m+ views a video so had the influence and income to do it.

...and what is it with people saying "yeah and matt finishes totally show off the cars' lines"
No they don't! it completely flattens out the shape...light reflection (or pinstriping) is the only way to highlight the body design...to it's best anyway.
The black looked gorgeous, a surprise actually...
STG's wrapping history I thought was pretty good, the red Jag, the black and gold accents to his 4C...I'm not 'feelin'' the matt khaki....Salamondrin screwed up similarly with his 911R...at least it can be changed easily...

I really like the whole VLogging scene. Some of it, not all, is quite interesting to see and hear about.
Personally, if I had the time (3 kids!), Id like to give it a go - but rather than risking being the same as all the others what would people now find interesting? i.e. is it starting to evolve??

The whole vlogging thing is fine with me. If you think that automotive vlogs are always someone in a car stuck in a traffic jam you should see how boring the make up vlogs my girlfriend watches are. It is not just that they only talk about something i am not interested in. They are just sat in a featureless room and often dont speak in a very engaging way. Monotone and going on about one thing for ages trying to drag the video length out.
Some of them use editing so heavily to make it sound like they are forming sentences that i have actually thought they were a piss take. Literally a jump cut on every other word.
Also i am slightly disappointed that Shmee does not start every forum post with "Hi guys it's Shmee here"

I regularly watch the likes of Shmee, STG, SOL, MrJWW and TGE TV. Not every video is interesting to me but most are.
If any of them want to purchase a car (by whatever means) for their own pleasure and increased views on their channel then that's fine by me. Their channels might not be where they are without these cars, so if they had done the 'sensible' thing and bought a house first maybe they wouldn't be quite so successful.
I also happen to like Sam's khaki green 540c

SOL, really? Editing is awful and content is considerably worse than othersIf any of them want to purchase a car (by whatever means) for their own pleasure and increased views on their channel then that's fine by me. That's a great video, as you said, Tim in his natural environment (without his own camera pointed at him) and drives his car 'properly' - little bit harder accelerations, little bit larking about in a way that most of us would if we had the opportunity. Also shows the genuine enthusiasm he has for his car, the exhaust conversation shows that. Good sport. johnwilliams77 said:

AgreeWould be better if the videos adopted this manner more
I did in and out of car vlogging channels and watch the bits that interest me. Shmee stills bugs me abit but his content is decent, gets lots of interesting opportunities now and he's got some great cars. He's also very genuine and honest on here which has considerably upped him in my estimation.
SOL is a bit st, lack of knowledge and some dire long monotone videos where nothing happens. He doesn't really have the lifestyle (bar the single nice car) to justify vlogging daily. Mr JWW is watchable and likeable and gets to do some interesting things which he generally films and edits well. STG is ok if a bit posho.
McLaren must be loving the Youtube vlogging world at the moment though, every single video from each of them seems to be "my friend/I just bought a McLaren MSO HS LT8499 GTR Spyder" or "EPIC ULTRA MEGA DRIVING in a McLaren 540c" etc. Amazingly amount of free publicity and good press.

A good point. STG seems to have overcome the winter lull by have an extended trip to LA and doing the series of test drive videos, and I'm sure he can fill the time until the European 'season' starts in the Spring by knocking out several 'look at my new McLaren' videos.
Shmee just buys a new car whenever he is stuck for content :-D
Someone like Jon Olsen seems to be constantly travelling so never appears short of content.
Another tactic is what the 'Boosted Boris' lad has done, he's recorded daily vlogs during the Nurburgring summer season and is releasing them over the winter when he's not get anything else to film, and hopefully by the time the 'ring kicks off for 2017 he'll have built up enough of a following to make it worth continuing.

I find myself really enjoying STG content recently.
