Are these Vloggers just a scam? SOL or Shmee etc???????

Started watching a guy called DannyDC2 a few months ago.
Think he's on here but not very often.
He only has 15k subscribers but that's gone up from less than 3k when I first started watching him.
He's just a normal young guy (with a Yorkshire accent) who is into his cars.
Posts every few days or when he has done something interesting to show people.
His "Crashed at Nurgurgring" series of vloggs were excellent.
Has recently got into drifting with his E36 and the videos of that are great fun.
In one of his vloggs he mentioned he made $450 last year from Youtube.
Think that was for about 500k views.

There are many angles to this, as proven by the E-Type video getting only 71k views in 48 hours, content like that just isn't of interest to my audience.
As a result, even though I personally know Ed and his car, there's no point that I draw attention to it because the audience as a whole couldn't care. I have to cater to the majority plus I don't personally have as much interest in cars that came before my time - this is something people too easily overlook.

Do a series... (like your Fuel for Thought)... maybe 1 or 2 a month that is educational!... the history and relevance of some older classics.
You owe it to your audience!
and yourself?!!
The cars you're reviewing will be relics of history soon enough. You've documented many.
The stuff we're talking about needs documenting too.
And no I'm not doing it....I'm too busy...
STG manages to loiter around some nice older stuff... just crow bar a few seconds of something older and just as beautiful in amongst the fresh-off-the-production line stuff... and tell your audience what it is and why you're filming it.

I suspect a Singer 911 would be of interest to the 'supercar kids' as it is expensive, carbon, exclusive etc.
I enjoyed Shmee's Jag video whereas I'd not car too much for a static walk around of most modern supercars.
(As mentioned above, I enjoy the DannyDC2 videos at the other end of the scale, a more normal chap working on his cars and having fun at the weekend on track days etc.)

Danny was a PH'er before he started the YT channel, I think - could be wrong tho!Think he's on here but not very often.

iirc, one of his first ever videos was of him scaring the carp out his GF in a DC2
On both PH, and in his videos, he strikes me as a genuinely decent guy, and the kinda guy I'd happily go for a beer with
He can drive a bit too; he did very well to get the lock wound on at the speed he did when the DC2 let go on the 'ring.

that's extremely sadcars from the 60s where before my time, that does not mean i just dismiss them especially as some of the all time great drivers cars where made then
likewise motor sport from the 80s was probably the pinnacle of performance and skill before computers made race cars super easy to drive on the limit and nanny regulations mitigated nearly all the risk

I have very little interest in cars before the 90's, only a few excite me.
It's not sad at all.

It's your choice, prerogative etc..
It is a bit sad as in there is over 30 years of pioneering, cutting edge headline making gorgeous machines that aren't on your radar....
And whilst the tech and stats might not quite match up, the experience and beauty certainly do...
anyway...
Not really sure why everyone is trying to get shmee to adapt his content as they would like to see. The lad is smashing it on youtube so although its not my cup of tea, its working for him. If he had listened to us before developing such support he would be nowhere near as successful. If I want to watch something on a singer Porsche (and I probably would over the latest shiny thing), then I simply type Singer Porsche into youtube instead. Or watch it on a Betamax video from Blockbuster given I am more that geriatric.

This is pistonheads, and everyone knows best. Stop being so reasonable.Shnozz said:

I agree but I just find it odd that apparently his average subscriber isn't a spotty 12 year old as people imagine but quite a bit older. Strange then that they are only interested in the latest carbon fibre encrusted supercar and nothing even remotely 'old'.Would he get 250K views if he did a video about a 355?

Don't be so ridiculous. Try and find it on Laserdisc instead. Betamax won't do it justice.Davey S2 said:

I liked his Daytona video. It got all of 36k views. You have to accept that he gives his audience what his audience responds to. And since he finds sponsors (eg Mobil 1) they are obviously happy with the demographics of the audience. Would he get 250K views if he did a video about a 355?
