Tim, no doubt you've already decided upon what you'll buy (if anything) while you await the GTR but if you are still open to suggestions, how about a slightly unusual suggestion.

A Range Rover Sport SVR.

You briefly enjoyed driving around in an X6 M50d a while ago and you hinted at SUV's as a possible replacement for the FF in a recent video. In my opinion, the Range Rover SVR will compliment the autoroutes and motorways, be a capable crew car to carry luggage and whatnot around in and will be able to maintain high speeds on an autobahn, should you find on one. It'll provide a nice juxtaposition against the remainder of your fleet too. A glance at the classifieds appears that there isn't much value to be lost when an example has over 10,000 miles on it.

The storyline will all make sense in due course, don't forget it's an 'edited reality'.

can i be naive and ask, the vehicles you have shmee are they mainly paid for by youtube revenue or by other investments, as i see a lot of comments on youtube where ppl think that if you make a few videos you're going to be driving around in similar cars,

in other words does youtube actually pay that well or is it very misleading

I've been fairly detailed about these things earlier in this thread but just for clarification; Shmee150 is my only source of income, of which YouTube represents a fraction (maybe 25%) sitting alongside countless other connected income streams through the social media platforms, the work my team do, affiliate schemes, branded content, presenting etc.

I think people far too quickly forget that this started about 10 years ago for me; it hasn't happened overnight. I've made around 3,500 total YouTube videos and posted goodness knows how much other content along the way. In reality it's been a 100 hour a week job for the last 3-4 years too; the results of which take a highly edited form to 'make it look easy'.

I really don't know.

There is no doubt it is excessive, both in terms of the output and in terms of the workload that goes into creating something every day - even if it's just a talking piece it still takes planning, thinking, filming, editing and handling the comment stream etc.

However, so much of this is algorithmical and as a business the aim is to chase views where they are available - meeting a quality level that I deem appropriate along the way. Ultimately the more content you have out there then the more people are going to be watching it, finding the channel, following the storyline, and growing it all faster.

At this particular time the format seems to be working very well and if you take a look at my channel stats from the time I backed off slightly in July and August to about 5 vidoes a week, then September and October when I made the mistake of going to 3-4 a week, you can very quickly see why I might be putting out more:

It goes both ways, pretty much everything you watch on YouTube is far from real. The best phrase I've heard on the topic was along the lines of: "If you know your daily diary was going to be read by hundreds of thousands of people, you'd probably spend a lot longer thinking about what you write in it". Perhaps the current misunderstanding is that viewers compare YouTube to their friends on Facebook, rather than content on Television that they know is scripted; this will be a concept that changes over time.

However, I don't think it's a waste of time to encourage engagement, I think it's part of the entertainment process and ultimately there's more to come in this space that has been and will continue to be directed by feedback from the audience. Obviously I cannot currently talk more about it at this stage though, although if I just listened to the majority vote I'd have to drive an Aventador everywhere and I really don't want to do that!

January's stats haven't included the Aston Martin factory videos and have managed to just about equal December's views. I probably spend an hour of every day looking at the analytics and charts so have a pretty good understanding of where things are going but there is no strict rule to give every video piece a weighting and one cannot necessarily predict virality.

my feedback for what its worth.......I like your channel very much lately, but your talking pieces in your garage without any actual substantive content might be milking it too far and your viewers might begin to notice. I'd say post as much as you like as long as it has some real theme / substance (ie. trip to mountune / trip to Topaz / drive out with mates or whatever.)

cheers

You bet! A few pages ago I answered that; I was supposed to fly out on Thursday to spend a weekend driving the entire AMG range on ice in Scandinavia but unfortunately due to it being too warm out there, the trip was cancelled same day. That means that the content you've seen over the last few days was largely created on the spot or unplanned in this exact form.

Also by soliciting feedback/engagement from viewers Shmee can work out what vehicles are of interest to the audience and look to include that sort of thing in future content.

From a personal point of view I'd like to see the Mini get taken on one of the European trips, perhaps to over the Alps to Turin? smile

I won't say too much, but it looked and sounded like you were having 'sensible' fun on your AMG GT test drive if it's when I think it was. We were in front of you for one of the runs up the A217 towards Romans and the AMG pulled up next to us at the traffic lights. We did see it again about 10 minutes later going back down towards Sutton but that might not have been you, it depends how many times you went up and down - although it looked like a fair few in the video judging by the street signs!

It sounds fantastic from the outside! And that road just off Kingwood village is a whole heap of fun when quiet, shame the limit is so low. frown
