So compared to its direct rival Lotus Evora 400, the new 911 Carrera not only has less power, it's also slower, heavier and more expensive. Oh and I doubt it steers or sounds as good as the 400 either.

No doubt it will still outsell the Lotus 100 to 1! wink
The terribly exciting and exotic engine in the 400 is bound to sound and feel amazing.

Never heard a Camry sound like this before:

On a side note, they have fixed up the front end (running lights) to make it look much more attractive imo than the 911.1

Also I guess its just me that enjoys the kick and the woosssh of a turbo...

Do Porsche or any other company offer a lower final drive ratio for manual 911s, Boxsters and Caymans?

No kick and whoosh here. It's made to feel as much as possible like an NA unit, it seems.

Shame isn't it...at least they will be able to offer something for the next 'turbo' to do

You can't ignore that despite the car's virtues, there is a constant undertone of apology for the car not being quite as nice as the car it replaces.

It reminds me of Rocky 5 when the promoter is 'bigging up' Tommy Gunn. "Ok he's no Rocky Balboa, but he's still a worthy champion"
Yes. It's not as bad as it could have been, probably better than we thought it would be, but of course not as good as it was.

The manual, atmospheric, HPAS 911s is a future classic.
What he said I think!

Yes, it's very nice! Porsche list it as Graphite Blue Metallic. Or grey...

Love the Grey. Its an understated choice but some of the colours from the sixties look particularly good on modern designs.

Turn your speakers on then. Seriously? What's wrong with that? Would like to hear the Porsche alongside.

Typical V6 Turbo meh with a farty, fruity exhaust. Bog all character. Just loud. Contrived.

confused It's not turbocharged and it doesn't sound remotely like it is? The stereotypical exhaust note of a turbocharged car comes from the turbine interfering with the exhaust gas pulses, blurring the line between the exhaust of each cylinder; there's no fundamental difference in exhaust note between a supercharged engine and a naturally aspirated one.

I agree it's not the nicest of noises and it's too loud, but it's better than the Porsche.

Ooops getmecoat

Still entirely devoid of character, like a turbo. Just blare. A loud exhaust attached to a mundane engine.

the Carrera had PSE, an expensive near £1800 option

I wonder whether a non PSE car is as quiet as a Prius?
According to EVO Diary, it sounds just fine with the normal exhaust. Sounds very 335i-like actually, which was a silly loud car for a turbo I6.

sounds terrible to me, contrived, monotone, dull and just like a Dyson

Each generation of seemingly every sports car seems to become a less sensual (oooo errr) experience but the market drives that ultimately though I can't say I'm not impressed with the mpg.

I think it looks good and is probably very quick, but I'd prefer a 997.
