Unless I'm missing something?

There's a reason why there are some good deals on VW group vehicles. Customers have been cancelling orders left right and centre in the wake of the cheat device scandal. There are validated tales of transporter drivers being turned away from VW dealers as the cars they were carrying had been cancelled. VW group will try to turn these vehicles into cash as quickly as possible, and chucking deposit allowances around and low lease rates is a good way of doing it. Fill yer boots chaps.

Quite the opposite in my local dealer.

So, nearly a month on from the start of this thread and with the following in mind;

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-35005158

and with the end of the year approaching (in my ignorance I assume this is a slow time of year for fleet and personal sales) is there much evidence of extreme aggressive pricing from VAG?

There were certainly some stonking S8 deals around recently. All being well we should be getting ours in March.

Same here. Told this week 'management decision not to discount performance Golfs as we don't need to do it to sell them' when I asked my local to match a carwow offer.

Likewise, I know a few guys at my local dealer and they have said they've basically not been affected by it at all. They're not a dealer who discounts heavily and that hasn't changed, nor have they noticed a downturn in custom or people cancelling orders.

Yet according to news reports sales have dropped 20%.....

Some dealers must really have suffered. Or some have been economical with the truth.

Yet one near me not only matched the best carwow offer I got, but beat it.

OTOH, I was taken by the arm and guided towards the door in another VW dealer when I asked about discount.

My local VW dealer eventually (almost) matched one of the silly lease prices on the outgoing Tiguan - I was a bit surprised as she was nowhere near to start with and after 3 days she managed a clearly quite creative deal which is refreshing for a VW dealer - they clearly wanted my business and deserved it even at £10 more / month.

''the biggest drop is seat at 24%, Audi are 4%...' so not a massive dent.

''The VW crisis appears to have had a limited effect on sales of diesel cars in general, which rose 3.6% year-on-year in November. This was just behind the 3.8% growth for petrol cars, but ahead of the 2.7% recorded for the year.''

Really? So what would it have to be to be massive?

I don't think you can read too much into one months figures though - Ford and Vauxhall both had chunky drops in October.

25% I think what most normal people would think is massive sales drop. The same as in the food old US of A.

Not sure if you read the article but it says vw diesel cars are actually selling higher than expected for this time of the year.

That comment is about diesel cars in general, not VW specific. It's inconceivable that VW diesel sales could be up if VW overall is down 20%.

You do understand that newspapers pretty much just invent stuff to make a story, right..?
