There isn't a basic spec Touareg - that was the attraction to us, lease offers were a similar price to Tiguan but the spec is in a different league.

there were some amazing lease deals being offered on Touareg, but try and take one up and everything goes wobbly.
What sort of price and what went wrong?
Monthly costs in the high £200's, but on 9+23 deals for 5K/yr and the mileage adder is 9p (6p on Tiguan). All plus VAT. So you're looking at £450/mth.

Quick glance now and looks like the advertised monthly's are in the £330 region so you'd be well over £500/mth amortised and with VAT.

The other thing that put me off is car availability if you're leasing seems very wobbly - brokers seem to expect you to order and hope for the best but it wasn't much more positive talking directly to the business guys at dealers. We needed a car fairly quickly and didn't want to left dangling.

SQ5 for £340 on a 3+35? Unlikely I'd say. Cheapest on CHL is £534, and that's for 10k miles, not 12k. Happy to be proved wrong though...

Can I ask how long you've been waiting? It was seeing those kind of monthlies (although oddly, bearing in mind VW's current issues, the price is a bit dearer than a couple of months ago) that made me look at Tiguan.

Some of these prices seem somewhat optimistic, to say the least.
It's a waste of time to quote a monthly fee without any details.

You might as well say Audi are doing V10 R8's for £99 a month which they happily will provided you -put £70,000 down.

Meaningless without the full stats and when you get them you'll see they aren't that great i think

Ah. The old 21+23 payment profile. Sounds awesome.

Have I missed something, this will be the first car I have ever leased.

The costs look pretty clear to me on the contract. Initial payment of £2400 then 23 payments of £127 so a total of £5325 over two years.

Yes it's clear but it's a silly profile based on a headline grabbing monthly rate.

Usually lease deal are expressed in a 3+23, 6+35, 9+35 payment profile. ie 3 payments up front for the first month then your monthly payment for the rest of the term.

The headline low rate in the deal you linked (ZOMG only 100 a month!!11!!) is offset by the fact that the deposit payment is 21 monthlies rather than 3. So although you might say wow it's 100 a month, in fact it's still 220ish a month amortised. Which is fine. It's just the headline monthly is a bit misleading.

I hope you've got some GAP insurance for the deposit smile

Thanks for that, I was a bit worried I'd been scammed somehow, being a first timer and all. Its only a second car for the supermarket run and to keep a few miles off my Cayman GT4. I'll admit that the headline monthly is what grabbed my attention. I feel dirty now.

I declined the GAP insurance. There were too many exclamation marks in the sales guy's email for my liking.

Oh - maybe everyone has cancelled! No-one would discuss anything less than factory lead-time (12 weeks) a couple of months ago. Odd how they've crept the price up if availability is much better - that's not what you'd expect.

Good car by the way - wife loves hers, although we went for 4Motion and DSG in the end.

If you do get the "Edition" version then it will be a pretty recent build as they've only just switched to that.

Its not a deposit, its the first months rental cost. Personally I wouldn't ever do a lease deal with more than 3 months for the first rental, if it gets nicked within the first month or 2 you would be well out of pocket.

Even some dealers were advertising them for £89/mth in the summer - it was certainly seeing that figure that made me look. They were even cheaper earlier in the year. A bunch of people on the Tiguan forum got them with some options and servicing and are paying under £5K all in for 2yrs.

As mentioned, it can't be insured. Anyway, you only need insurance if you can't cover the loss yourself. wink

Crikey, now I'm thinking they will make me wait ages. The GT4 is taking 15 months from deposit to delivery so it won't be worse than that. If it is I think I'll lose my st completely. All the smiley faces on this thread make it hard to understand if people are taking the piss or not wink

If it was that long you'd be getting the new Tiguan!

VW must have taken a hit on orders - even a few cancellations would free things up a lot. We took one that was in the pipeline but even then some dealers were saying it could be 6 weeks. I got a video of the car sitting in the supplying dealer's compound a week after we ordered it!

I can't find one anywhere near £340 either.
