Still can't get contact name, but this is the deal one of the mum's at school got for a 65-plate. Deposit paid for plus cash discount. Took delivery last week.

^^Business users only, plus VAT^^

Also, when you say, "Deposit paid for plus cash discount", do you mean the dealer is paying the deposit of c£6.5K (+VAT?) as well as discounting the initial price?

It's contract hire - there isn't a deposit.

If you mean they covered the upfront payment then I don't believe whoever told you that. And how would they additionally get a cash discount - by cashback? rofl

That deal overall isn't much cheaper than what's on VW's website. And VW's excess mileage charge is lower.

That is so far removed from the offer you claimed it is ridiculous.

I have to say I'm now as certain as can be that you were talking nonsense.

It's a shame but I suspected as much.

Oh well :-(

There's a 3 year old 3.0 TDI V6 SE 5-Dr with 28k miles on the VW used car site for £25k. What would that have been traded in for? £20k? That's £23k depreciation with no discount.

The example above is (35 x £218) + (£6500) + VAT = £17k ish.

So before discounts, the lease appears to be £6000 cheaper over 3 years, and you're not shelling out for a 40 grand loan.

A 20 second surf on line shows Broadspeeds with do £8.5k off a new 3.0 SE, so even if the dealer stumps up the £6.5k initial rental, it's no bargain.

VW (assume FS) covered the upfront/deposit, the dealer also discounted the sale price (i.e, the amount the finance is based on).

So if it's close to VW website offer, everyone can get one for £0 upfront & £217 per month. QED.

Nothing upfront, £200/mth.

This women got nothing upfront and £217/mth - and that was just from her local VW dealer.

That's so far removed...?

You forgot they get a cash discount too. wink

Seriously - someone is having you on. I know people who have bought cars on PCP and absolutely insist that the deposit is refundable at the end of the deal.

I got a discount off the price of mine (given by the dealer) so BMW FS were financing less. It's hardly a unicorn concept.

Just for comparison purposes........
Drive the Deal will do a Touareg SE 262 for £35419, that's with no options at all.
(Actually you can get a further £1500 off if you currently own a VW, but anyway).
That's a £10k ish discount off list.
I reckon in 3 years time it'll be worth £22k trade in (check Autotrader, assume 24,000 ish miles, £25k at a VW dealership) hence £13k depreciation.
If you can get one for £217 per month plus VAT over 35 instalments that's £9114.
Seems like a good deal IF IT EXISTS. How would you get round the "business only" stipulation if you're a private renter though?

You are correct. The OP is making a fool of himself.

The woman he referred to didn't get the deposit paid by the dealer, probably doesn't even exist.

When you are in a hole the best thing to do is to stop digging.

Best advice here for the OP!
