I saw one in Cheshire last Friday. Bronze with a blond lady driving - it was cliché overload.

I hope they have added a new colour to the range "Cheshire Bronze Tan"

And don't forget Bentley made bespoke 4x4s based on the range rover for the sultan of Brunai. I would say they did a better job for him that they did this time though...

No excuse required! Wealthy people should be viewed with utter disdain at all times. What's your problem (although your vehicle ownership suggests you're living the wannabe like no other)?

I hope I manage to be viewed with utter disdain at some point, at least regarding my hoped for wealth anyway...

Missed the damn EuroM's yet again so I'll bask in the glory of being poor for a bit a longer...

Which parts of the article were you referring to about the bad attitude towards wealth?

Not ignorance.

I've got nothing against the idea of a Bentley SUV - it should fit the company's DNA perfectly.
But this tarted up Q7 is simply not good enough. So, so ugly and lacking in any grace.
I'm afraid it shows how the Germans will rape any grand old brand to make a quick buck in China and the Middle east.

To compare this turd to the old Le Mans winning cars is ludicrous. Ettore was livid that the Bentleys proved to be the faster, tougher cars. To win at Le Mans can never be down to pure luck. The Bentleys were the better cars. They were world beaters. When the flag drops, the BS stops etc.
Tell me, how is this new Bentley a world beater?

Sure, they've always exported a lot of cars to these type of emerging markets but in the past the wealthy punters were buying the best of European design. Bentley was a brand that meant something.
The tail is now wagging the dog. Bentley will build anything it can hawk to the vulgar international weathly set as long as the profit is right. Sure, it will sell, but what next for the brand? Will it still be special in 20 years time? Will owning a Bentley set you apart? I don't think so.

Please don't try and defend this abomination.
graceful SUV laugh

I don't see this issue people seem to have with companies building cars that the global market wants. It might be different to what we want, but then we are a small part of the global market. and as with the cayenne, hopefully will bankroll some more interesting stuff that we do like.

If all they did was build the same old stuff they probably wouldn't still be going.

Dr EV tells us he spotted Bentayga in Cheshire very recently. Shows that North can equal Surrey in the bling stakes.

You've never been to Cheshire, have you? More like Essex than Surrey.

L322 Range Rover. Especially the early ones before the bling facelift. Understated, glorious.

I agree with you on most of it.

Given the global market a Bentley SUV makes sense. I also think it fits with the brands DNA.
But do it properly.
If Bentley is the ultimate expression of automotive opulence, style and presence then the car should not look like an Audi Q7 ( not a pretty car to start with) with a Bentley front end welded on.
Sure, there is demand for a Bentley SUV but don't do it on the cheap.
This is Bentley for gods sake - they should not be forced to cut corners by their VW overlords.
Would you be happy if RR responded with this?

Well, I'd rather Rolls-Royce responded with a no-nonsense luxury 4x4 than a rebadged Q7...

I've been assuming that Rolls will be basing their SUV on a BMW, so no different from Bentley, Porsche etc in terms of being gold plated jewellery rather than solid.

Not the article... just the attitude it makes reference to.

A uniquely British trait unfortunately.

Drive a nice car elsewhere in the world and you will receive the thumbs up.

Drive a nice car many places in the world and you will get mugged! I'll rather a sarky comment behind my back from Mrs Morris at Number 6, than being held up by gun point in Rio de Janeiro hehe

I don't think Britain is all that bad, we think it is, but spend any meaningful amount of time in another country with some middle class locals and you will see the Bentley drivers of the UK don't have it so bad wink
