How I miss the era of these cars. Just think of what's around today compared to then:

Fiat coupe
Alfa GTV
Corrado
Celica GT4
MR2
Calibra turbo
200SX
MX6
Prelude
FTO
audi S2

Modern cars are so boring.
Or this...

Now that's a proper car. Correct wheel drive, nicely styled and no electric crap getting in the way. Trouble is, I can't fit in one! I had the chance of a 968 CS a few years ago when I swapped my Chimaera. Unfortunately, I want for the supposedly 'sensible' choice of a Z3M. 3 months in, it lunched a spring in a very unfortunate way!

I think the sunroof delete option gave a bit more headroom if that was your issue.

I wish it were that simple! At 6'8 and 22 stone, my choices are not that easy!

Ed China seemed to fit in the one they had on WD, I guess he's a fair bit lighter though.

Cheers pal! If it's only to go around a corner for a TV shot, it would be OK. But for an everyday car, it just wouldn't work.

Haven't seen that episode, was it a recent one?

Plain and simple UGLY. Didn't like it then and not now. You could put 1000bhp and make it weigh 2kg I still would not like these. Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder.

You can have an opinion on any car regardless of what you own or have owned though?

From all the cars i've had in the past (im currently on number 25) a 1998 20v Turbo is one of the only cars still alive today.

https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ is good for seeing if you've killed your old cars.

I'd love one again - I had my fun when the market bottomed out.

The MOT on my old 20VT (R228LPN) expired on 26 March 2010, so it may still be around on SORN.

I owned a 20VT for a number of years and absolutely loved it. The 5 pot engine is a joy and the sound.....
They are practical too. You can easily get two adults in the back. My wifes Zafira was off the road for a couple of weeks and we had to use the Fiat as the family car. You know what? It nailed it. Good boot space. Fabulous interior - hand made Pininfarina. The car never let me down. The only problem is that some jobs require specialist garages. This is not a problem if you live near one. But for me, it would be 100 miles away plus leaving it overnight.

I'd love another at some point. But the prices are on the up, which I am pleased about in some ways as it means that it may start to get the respect it deserves!!

Bought a fiat coupe 20 valve turbo in sprint blue 8 years ago & had it 5 years.
The acceleration from these cars is astounding considering its a 2 ltr engine with a nice big turbo strapped to it.

Handling is very sharp and planted on B roads and the looks make this car look younger than they are.

I have since bought my 2nd coupe after trying the usual fast hatches & 2.0 tdi's of the German variety but nothing made me grin from ear to ear like a fiat coupe 20vt does.
Even now it turns heads when people see it & so if your thinking of buying one my advice is do it.

Mitsi - not a fan - do they make anything anymore?
Audi - all kinds of fast cars in 2015

When you add in current Fast Fords, Renaults etc etc I can't really see why you think we're worse off now than then?
Really the 90's were a golden era for enthusiasts, today is really same of sameness (Fiesta ST/280gti/clio cup, leon cupra, golf r,megane cup)

Alfa Romeo - GTV V6, 155 Q4
VW - Corrado VR6
Toyota - Celica GT-Four, Toyota Supra, MR2 Turbo
Vauxhall - Lotus Carlton, Calibra/Cav 4x4 Turbo
Nissan - Pulsar GTi-R, 300zx, 200SX, Primera EZX, Skyline R32+R33
Honda - Integra R, Civic R, Accord R and Prelude VTi
Mitsubish - Evo 6, FTO and GTO
Audi - RS2, S2 coupe.
Ford - Escort + Sierra Cosworth and Fiesta RS Turbo

With the exception of the premium brands all normal marques have maybe one or two enthusiast cars. Back then they were coming out of every orifice. Plus near enough every marque had a hot version of their more mundane cars which is unheard of now. Want a Toyota Carina with a 177HP 3SGE? No problem. I do not think you can even get a Toyota Avensis today with that much power.

Buy one now! Often misundersood car. Very fast in a straight line, ultra reliable with minimal maintenance, just keep an eye on the cambelt and suspension bushes. Dont rust despite some comments. Very practical car and looking better than it ever has now they are getting older and rarer. I have had loads of exotic cars from porsches to maseratis and the coupe is my favourite of the lot as it always puts a smile on my face, turns heads and does not cost a fortune to run.
