Every thread you start is good value, pure comedy.

There was recently a thread on the Boxster forum that was similar. A guy wanted one but didn't want to spend more than 2,500. He made out he wasn't fussy in terms of spec, mileage, transmission, engine, etc. He decided he wanted a HPI clear car, that didn't need paintwork. Everyone said it was unrealistic (and a false economy anyway) but he was adamant it was do-able. After 2 months of turning down pretty much everything (most were CAT D in that price range) he went and bought a nice car, low miles, good history but CAT D repaired with poor paintwork. I guess the moral of the story is, you need to make some compromises if you're at the bottom of the market, doubly so if you aren't willing to travel and are inflexible on viewing times.

I can see this car being a disappointment to you, I imagine you are the type of guy to walk away if the screen wash is apple scented and you prefer cherry.

Isnt it funny how a simple desire for a black interior causes so many sarcastic responses. Its not gold bloody plating.
I think the phrase you're looking for is "beggars can't be choosers" at this price level and going on what you have previously posted, colour and interior trim are nice to haves but not your main concern.

Dan - please god can the next post be "I bought the car and am very pleased with it, I had to compromise a little but the process has been a valuable one. Now I am off to drive it".

You can tell us what happens to the Mondeo in a thread called "unrealistic expectations of the car buying public".

We are genuinely willing you on just some in a slightly more warped way than others - happy buying

The car seemed great. Had a fairly long test drive. But the gearknob was a bit small. I like a chunky knob.

I've bought it yeah biggrin

Collect it in a couple of days time.

Was really nice to drive, great condition overall, engine seemed fine. Here is the link: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

I do need to deal with some rust bubbling on the rear arches though, and probably drop a new battery in and have it serviced.

Best place to ask about how I deal with the rear arch rust?

Looks a nice car.

Re the rust it depends how long you want to keep the car, short term just bodge it or long term and have the rust cut out and new arches put in.

If you want it done properly i'd look online if there are any classic car/vw bodywork specialists near to you.

Closure at last!

Surprised you went for one with so many miles on it. Not bad if you can get 3-500 for the dulldaeo too. Enjoy the difference in fuel consumption!

When do you pick it up?

132k miles and rotten arches. Crazy. Youd have been able to buy a nice low mileage car for 2k. Probably needs 3-400 a side to sort out / paint properly. Not bodged up with filler.

It's priced about right, it's worth £1500 without doubt. It's not astronomical miles let's be honest and some bubbling on the arches isn't the end of the world.

People pay twice or three times that for old knackered 3 series that are rotten all over the place... As said above, it looks tidy, and a fitted boot liner can be a sign of a decent owner, along with a nice overall condition.

He could of waited 6 months for one to pop up just down the road on a weekend, or get this one and just deal with the rust. Let's just be glad he's finally found something!

The saab wouldn't be rusty, but then the interior might have been a different colour. Swings and roundabouts... smile

A boot liner is sign of a decent owner ??? Some one whos cleaned under the arches and not let it rot would be my view of a decent owner. Not sure how having a piece of plastic in the boot makes you think its been looked after. Id walk away from anything rotten. Clear sign that it hasnt been looked after. 1495 trade price will be a 5-700 quid auction car. Good luck with it. Hope its ok.

Thanks Ghost. Just reading the few comments above I started to be a bit worried about the rust.

The car drove lovely, and there were tonnes of receipts for stuff. Interior in really good condition. It will take 6 years of me owning the car for it to reach the same mileage as my current car (which does have rust on the doors - common problem with 03 mondeos).

Just been sorting out the insurance this afternoon. Bit of messing about but I'm only paying a couple quid a month more on average than my current car.

My cars are very well looked after mechanically, and aside from the classic saab I owned until recently which had the arches treated to prevent rust, there's no way I'd clean under arches of a car, and most people don't either. 1. Don't have time 2. Hardly the end of the world if a 12-13 year old car has a (very small, easily sortable) amount of cosmetic rust.

A good, clean overall condition and signs of care I.E a boot protector is an obvious indicator that the car has been looked after, no?

If it was a st choice then I'd be the first to criticise believe me.

Anyway, never mind.....

I'm sure it'll be fine Dan, all the best with it.
