I have spoken to the seller and I am to call sunday morning and if it's available still I will be visiting it then. Yes you'll say I should have gone down in the dark or had time off work but sunday will have to do unfortunately. I realise its a chance.

The car seemed great. Had a fairly long test drive. But the gearknob was a bit small. I like a chunky knob.

I do need to deal with some rust bubbling on the rear arches though, and probably drop a new battery in and have it serviced.

Thanks Ghost. Just reading the few comments above I started to be a bit worried about the rust.

The car drove lovely, and there were tonnes of receipts for stuff. Interior in really good condition. It will take 6 years of me owning the car for it to reach the same mileage as my current car (which does have rust on the doors - common problem with 03 mondeos).

Just been sorting out the insurance this afternoon. Bit of messing about but I'm only paying a couple quid a month more on average than my current car.

I need to find out more about it, but can't I just replace the rear panel from a scrappy?

I'll probably put some rust treatment on it in the short term to stop it getting worse until I decide what the best approach is. I was thinking I'd have a go at it myself, sanding it back, treating it and then spraying over. Obviously I can't be cutting out metal.

You're probably right but I've had to swap the insurance over now. Can't afford to insure two cars. I will be keeping the Mondeo for a bit just in case anything goes wrong with the Honda, but I can't keep them both insured.

If you get it much cheaper i bet you they only actually replace the outer skin so on the surface it looks all nice but underneath the rust is still in the inner skin.

Accords do tend to scab up a bit in places - it is their only real achilles heel. On the upside they don't rust anywhere near as bad as Mercs and probably no worse than a BMW from the same era.

If it is mechanically sound it should have another 60k in it no problems if you look after it. The 2.4's are well worth seeking out over the 2.0's and tend to demand better money.

It isn't as good a buy as the first one, but it looks OK to me.

I did get another £95 off it so i paid £1400.

Cheap and easy to do and should keep the worst of the rust progress at bay. I'd also regularly hose or jet wash the arch/lip clean throughout the winter and re-apply ACF-50 as necessary.

I've done similar with an BMW E36, which rusted for fun, with some success. Just a thought.

Thanks. I can spray that under the arch linings to try keep the inside rust at bay. Can i spray it over the outside on the bubbling paint also?

Ill post a couple close up photos later as on way to collect today. The offside rear arch did crumble a bit underneath where it bends under the wheel arch. Its only spotting on the nearside rear.
