Planning on visiting local BMW dealer tomorrow and hopefully she'll get a test drive.

I think the Z4 is looking the most likely at the moment. I'm sure if she finds one she likes at the right price she'll just go ahead and buy.

S2000, great car, great drivers car, but the your average Joe(sephine) , nothing special.

350Z, again very nice, not sure it have the up market style she is after.

Reason the Porsche is 'cheap' is that it's from a trader I've purchased from previously. It's a part ex he just wants clear of so has offered me it at at reasonable discount.

If the badge is that important, get a fiat coupe and stick some Ferrari stickers on it.

Dismissing the S2000 because of the badge is completely bonkers.

Similar wishes last year so I bought a Z4C! laugh

No floppiness as it has a roof (and climate control) - N/A straight 6, RWD - job jobbed for me!

My other half had the same dilemma and went for a Z4M - but she was a lot more bothered about performance than yours.

Sadly the budget is shy of what a Z4 //M roadster will require.
We did look at one for 12k, but it was a high miler, Irish plates, km/h speedo and the front right brake calliper jammed on during the test drive. We decided to find a bit more money...

I've owned both at various times. 2004 986 3.2S Boxster. Then a 2007 Z4M Coupe. And now a 2012 Z4 35is. I miss the Boxster very much and wil have another when I get back to the UK.

The Boxster is in another league in terms of feeling special and handling/feel. And the engine makes a fantastic noise...purring at low speeds and loads of racing car noises when booted. And it's just different to other cars...front and rear boots, fuel filler on the front wing etc. It sounds silly, but it is just a bit more special than other cars of a similar price/ability.

I loved my Z4 M, mostly for the way it looked and the engine...but that's only the M. I drove various 'normal' 3.0is coupes and roadsters while mine was being serviced, and the M is an entirely different beast and made the ordinary ones feel .. ordinary.

I had both RMS and IMS problems with the Boxster within 6 months of taking delivery. I had it from new so obviously it was all sorted under warranty and I had great service from Reading OPC. Wouldn't have wanted to pay for it myself. But I've been told that the statistics show that this tends to happen early on, so if the one you're looking at has done 100,000 miles and it hasn't happened then its unlikely to. And, despite what the internet would have you believe, compared to the number of boxsters and 996s that were sold, the problem isn't really all that common. You never hear about all the ones that were fine.

But the Z4M also had a failed computer/ECU unit which the guys at the dealer said would have cost 3,500 quid. And my 35is is currently exhibiting symptoms of a failed high pressure fuel pump...which is out of warranty, and I'm looking at 3000 for that too, apparently.

Point is, these are all expensive cars when new...and I think BMW is just as bad as Porsche if things go wrong. My advice to you would be to buy whatever you can afford from somewhere like Hartech, or take the warranty/maintenance package with them on one you buy somewhere else. You'll like the BMWs ... but you'll love the Boxster.

I had a Z4 many years ago and they are great little cars and used to get a Boxsyer when the 911 was being serviced.

Overall the Porsche will feel more special, to drive and also, let's face it, to tell people you have a Porsche. There is a reason we don't all drive a Dacia.

Get the S if you can.
