RE: Mercedes E55 AMG: Spotted
Discussion
I bought this E55 for my wife five years ago to replace a rusting but mechanically perfect E240 estate. With absolutely no rust and following a lengthy search, I paid accordingly and we've been rewarded with a pretty much trouble-free car.
This one is completely factory standard and with only 70,000 miles from new. We'll never sell it.
I know a Mercedes technician who sorts the servicing for a reasonable amount.
These things have a lovely dual character to them. They're incredibly quiet and fairly unremarkable at low speed and below around 3,000rpm to the point where you wonder what the fuss is about, but they wake up above that and come alive the more you push them.
I can't compare them to an 'M', but we do enjoy their relative anonymity and increasing rarity on the road.
