I had a drive in a Tesla and would say that it is so very different to any car with an ICE. And I mean really different. Im in say an M5. I put my foot down - engine has to spool the turbos, the gear box has to work out what it wants to do yes you may have software in there and you can work towards sorting the engine out to react quicker but these are fixes and alterations being done to work round the fallicies of the ICE.

The tesla....... what a car. Any place any speed sink the pedal and you have rapid (rabid) acceleration like nothing you have experienced before. It takes some getting used to and it just keeps pilling on the speed - no engine curves no turbos cams or the like to sully the power delivery it just does it.
This is exactly why I didn't hesitate for one second to swap my much loved 335i that I had poured literally blood/sweat into modifying for a 108bhp Nissan Leaf. The power delivery even on small EVs like the Leaf and Zoe makes every petrol car I've ever driven feel like they should be taken off the road and put into museums.

Yes batteries need to get cheaper (the technology is good enough already), but from my own personal experience, the future is already here, so why not get involved?? I look fowards to the day when I can tell my kid they had their first experience of a car was in one of the worlds first mass produced EVs smile

Nice dilemma to have- love the looks of the i8 but never been in one.Had a ride in a Tesla and had to recalibrate everything I thought I liked in cars. Utterly stunning . Like anybody , I 'd have my daft car for fun (and I adore my Seven) but for A to B transport Tesla is the future for many- and I now get why .

The Tesla is on my list of possible replacements come the end of my current lease. On paper i am finding it hard to come up with a reason not to choose it over anything else, it ticks evey box i currently have, space, pace, cost....what however i dont like is the styling.

On paper they look to my eyes like a good looking car, however I parked next to one in costco last week. I didnt even realise what it was until i got out and walked past the back of it and thought to myself "Ah Kia have something new and big out...oh wait....". Now i am all for a Q car, but this is way beyond that, it has almost no character at all.

That dosent completely put me off, and the I8 just isnt an option due to having kids, and i am sure that to drive i feels alot better than it looks, but that outside...so boring. And that massive screen on the dash really does look as bad in the fleash.
