Neither, I'd save several thousand and get an M135i or M235i instead.
Same. M135i at £25k new seems like a bargain - more cylinders, less wheels driven - and you can have it manual and 3-dr.M2 is the (not that obvious) competitor but difficult to get hold of.

They have just updated the A45 with more power and shorter gearing and a diff
The gearing is an area that could improve but it is very fast car with a great engine.
I went for stealth mode (no Spoiler) and I am happy with its look
It is in for a service a week on monday and there are updates for the gerabox and AWD system.
I will keep you updated but I do recomend a test drive because reviews are mixed.
I have never known a car that grows on you I use it every day and with the damp conditions it is very good.
People say it is expensive but the experience and performance you get is fantastic for the money
I am bit biased

Neither do it for me but, an RS3 vs Golf R review I watched suggested the R is the far better car and having not particularly thought much of the R anyway it would have to be the Merc...... which I haven't driven.
Do you have a link to that review?Neither do it for me but, an RS3 vs Golf R review I watched suggested the R is the far better car and having not particularly thought much of the R anyway it would have to be the Merc...... which I haven't driven.
Personally I think the golf r looks and sounds sooooo dull compared to the RS3. Yet it is a fine balance, as I like the more understated nature of the RS3. Especially compared to fast Fords, Honda or AMG.
I drove an RS3 2 weekends ago and it is one hell of a package, like many on here i could never drop £40k on a small hatch, BUT, the engine, looks, quality and overall experience was awesome! (not wild on the DSG box but its ok)
The Merc, I would agree, looks chavvy in my eyes and for whatever reason Merc's just dont do it for me

^^^^^ this. I'd have the Golf GTI over R any time for this very reason.Personally I think the golf r looks and sounds sooooo dull compared to the RS3. Yet it is a fine balance, as I like the more understated nature of the RS3. Especially compared to fast Fords, Honda or AMG.
Neither look good enough at the price for my liking, but somehow the RS3 looks less chavvy. The red detailing inside the AMG is awful. The nicer engine in the Audi also pushes me that way. The AMG A45 as it now seems to be called is better than it was, the updates are good, but it needs to look better imo.
£40K for either of these? It makes me realise what great value I got recently, for a January 2013, M3 E92 V8 Ltd Edition, at ten grand less!
Looks, sound, power, fun, performance, quality; it's got the lot.
