On the new Discovery they've lost the asymmetry. Can't think why they'd give up such a well established styling cue.

I hadn't noticed that that had gone. Obviously is was there in the first place to allow a bit more visibility around a rear mounted wheel - is it because they have found room to stow the spare underneath?
They'll probably get all nostalgic in a few years and bring it back.

Clearly there's a lot more asymmetry these days than there used to be

Only thing is, that's not the new Discovery. That's the Discovery Sport.. A replacement for the Freelander.. The Discovery 4 still has the same rear window

And that 243 would be the ideal car for pranks/pulling a bank job with conflicting witness statements.
I don't think it'd be brilliant for the bank job because if you were linked in any other way, the witnesses from one side of the road and the witnesses from the other adamantly saying opposing statements about the number of doors could prove it was your car!

Also, if you're unlucky and one witness identifies it as a Volvo 243, they won't have to track down many 243 owners before they get to you whereas if it's just "black Vauxhall Vectra" or "silver Ford Mondeo" there are countless possible suspects!

Seen a few of these and always thought it looked like a bit of trim had fallen off

Plus there are always the Mallock hillclimb cars where the driver sits alongside the engine:

I've often thought that Citroen should go back to their old badge placement.
These had an offset badge too, but they changed it for the facelift after 18 months:-

Struggling to find a decent pic but if we're going down the air vent route then the classic Saab 900 was also asymmetric.

As well as the bonnet vent on one side, the back edge of the bonnet was stepped, so they couldn't reverse the wipers for RHD. LHD and RHD cars all had LHD wipers, the RHD drivers side wiper was on a cam type setup to sweep further into the corner of the windscreen, similar to the system that Mercedes had on their cars with the single wiper.

Whilst on vents, I believe some Mercedes models had a kind of vent grille cut into the front wing on one side only, but I can't find a picture.

The Americans do have some very strange headlight configurations for European cars.

Diesel W124

That's better and a much better bonnet fit to.

gbecasue they mandated sealed beams for a good number of years after the rest of the world had moved onto styled headlights and halogen bulbs
