Your cars "Story"

I was chatting to an elderly guy I knew quite well. Just in passing I mentioned I fancied a Sunbema Alpine. He said "ones going through the auction @ Buxton next week, would you like me to bid on it for you?
No thanks, I'm not ready yet. I've got to clear the decks, and make some space, I wouldn't want to bid on something I hadn't seen.
Oh fair enough he said. And that was that (or so I thought)
I went on holiday and forgot all about it for a few weeks. On my return one of my colleagues said to me. The Alpine bloke has been in touch he's bought it for you.
I thought nothing more of it, expecting a wind up.
Several more weeks passed and I was speaking to the guy on another matter. "Oh you remember that Alpine? I bought it with you in mind, why don't you pop over to have a look" (me thinking bloody cheek but don't be rude he puts a lot of business my way) "the car's fine it just needs someone to make a pet out it"
I reiterated I wasn't in a position to take it. He said "oh doesn't matter, pick the car up and have a look, if you want it send me a cheque, if not I'll pop it back in the auction. No rush as long as I know by xmas" (It was only august)
Who could turn down an offer like that?
His place was quite a drive and I was v busy @ work. Sooooooooooo, I blagged a favour from a mate in logistics, he diverted a car transporter and collected it for me. Up on the ramps, priced up cost of getting it into decent order.
Hummed and hared for about a week, and then put my last project up for sale.
A couple of days later I had money in my pocket and garage space. So made my offer (not quite the auction price, it needed stuff doing)
Offer accepted. So here it is, my new pet.
I even tracked down the original owner prior to the auction. He now had a Tiger, so met up with him at a STOC meeting @ Blenheim Palace. Loved the car and kept it for about 4yrs.
