V70 fits the bill because the rear seats are set further back than in the Octavia. It's not simply about how big the car is but about how it's laid out.

I've mentioned elsewhere that I love my V70, and it's a great family car.

Yup, agree with all of this. You don't need r design either, we have an SE with the 175 hp 5 cylinder diesel and I'm glad I saved the money compared to the equivalent r design. Black leather hides stains better than 2 tone and it's not a slow car by any means. I wouldn't want bigger wheels etc either.

Also, and I've said this before, volvo seats are amazing.

Believe it or not the boot of the Passat is much bigger then the Octavia and A4. It's pretty much as big as the A6. smile

It's not boot space the OP is looking for - instead he's looking for more back seat space.

I have been looking at similar options and can't see past the superb estate at the current lease prices available.

In that case, don't look at V70s. Not much rear leg space when the front seats are set back. Apart from that, they are great with huge boots.

Mercedes R-class for a used option? XF estate? Just a thought. But otherwise the Superb or Volvo.

got both a Mk4.5 mondeo and a previous Gen(2012) octavia sitting outside at the moment, the Mondeo is massive in comparison, both used as taxis difference being with the Mondeo i can still get passengers behind my nightshift driver quite easily (he's 6 foot 7) in the Mondeo whereas with the skoda not a chance.

Mondeo is much bigger all round cracking value for money and pretty reliable (certainly more reliable for us than the skodas). anything else you want to know just ask,

Superb is also a great shout especially in estate guise which is massive(granted so is the Mondeo compared to most things)

I bought a V70. It's OK.

Wish I'd bought the Superb I looked at instead.

Or an Insignia tourer for that matter.

The new Superb is a cracking car all round, but if its rear leg room you want then you need to go to a 7 series or S class to beat.
The boot is huge too, way bigger than the Octavia.

150ps engine is probably the pick of them all. Lease deals currently work out ~£5k total for the SE business over 2 years.

Not a fan of the VAG but the superb is really hard to beat, the leg room is imense and the boot opening design is very trick.

Superb always used to have legroom comparable with a Bentley , not much else would touch it , they are very generous

I'm 6ft 1 and this was my old car. My 16 yr old son is 6'3" and never complained

Thanks again everyone.
Some very interesting posts. Superb is looking great really.
Interesting the v70 is tight in the back and interesting the mondeo isn't!

I did have a look round the new superb yesterday and it would need to have the electrically adjustable leather. The base adjusts for tilt which it doesn't on the standard seats and it makes it so much more comfortable. May mean I end up looking 2nd hand rather than new as the lease deals seem to only be great on the se business.
Just have to sell my laguna coupe now...

SE L Spec has an electrically adjustable drivers seat as standard. L&K has both drivers and passenger seat electronically adjustable.

Personal experience says otherwise, although my V70 is a 2003 model so the latest variant may have changed things. How far back are you setting front seats?

Not in my experience - having owned a 2004 Mondeo and a 2003 V70 side by side, the V70 wins hands down for getting child seats in, and for rear seat room generally. The Mondeo was very similar to my Octavias (2000 & 2002 vintage) for layout, which were also hopeless for bulky child seats. If you're looking at more recent variants then I can't comment on either.

Irrelevant. The Mk4 Mondeo is much larger than the Mk3 (which a 2004 would be).

The Mondeo when it came out was 3-series size, now it's 5-series size while other cars (such as the Octavia) are still 3-series size.

Are you sure the Mondeo is larger than the Octavia?

Yes.

Width 2017 mm
Height 1465 mm

2014+ Ford Mondeo Estate

Width 2121 mm
Height 1501 mm

And for comparison
2015+ Skoda Superb Estate
Length 4856 mm
