Absolutely, hence the dilemma. Humans are emotional beings after all. I'm not for one minute doubting the Outback is the better car, as I stated in my OP. Sometimes it's nice not to be completely objective or rational when making decisions.

Why not? I don't think Land Rovers are exempt from accidents! Even if it hit a small car, its going to have front end damage the same as any other vehicle.

I've seen plenty of lorries with expensive front end damage (lights/panels etc) when they,ve "only" hit a little car.

Anyway, i'd go Subaru!

my dad used to have a Sherpa van. when it was in for service / repairs, the pool vehicle used to be an old Defender. he used to prefer the Sherpa. much nicer drive. say no more !

Well, Ordered an Outback (petrol, auto, premium) today. Can't wait to get rid of that bloody MINI.

The Defender will just have to wait...
