I bought my 2-seater sports car in 2008 when my kids were 3 and <1. I still have it now and they are 10 and 8. We only have one other car in the family. You are also forgetting that not everyone wants to stand out! The 911 Turbo is a highly respected car wherever you go, however it can still blend in pretty well (maybe not in yellow...) and is unlikely to offend all that many people.
I used to have a F430 Spider, I feel a LOT more comfortable driving around in a 991 C4S Cabrio - especially with the roof down. You get a lot more attention in these 'supercar' style cars like the McLaren, and that isn't something everyone enjoys, myself included - hence why I personally would take the 991 Turbo over say a McLaren if I had £150k to spend on a brand new 'fun' / 'weekend' car.

You're missing the point. The back seats aren't ever meant to actually be used. They're meant to prevent the owner from feeling guilty that he bought a 2-seat car with a family larger than the number of "seats". I'm a smidge over 6'1", and I occasionally sit in the back of a 991 Carerra. I'm not saying it's exactly comfortable, but I'm usually the one to suggest taking the Porsche over the horrible Audi.
That said, I'm not sure anyone else could use the 4th seat with me in the back. And I can be folded inside a large suitcase...

I have a 991 and 2 kids (3 and 6) and live in London. Porsche gets used all weekend if possible with all 4 up. Goes to the supermarket (you can get quite a lot in the boot), trips to country etc and is always the car of choice when offered to the little ones. Anything involving proper long distance, bikes, mud, football etc and its the SUV. Another mate has a 997 cabrio and is the same.
A 2 seater car would be useless - it just wouldn't get used. Unless I moved to the country where you really can just go for a quick 15 minute blast when you feel like it instead of knowing you need at least an hour where I am, to get through traffic to somewhere more fun.

Exactly, and this is the case with most large towns / cities in the UK, it can take a while to get somewhere fun to drive. Especially in the south where there is a lot of traffic even in the countryside.A 2 seater car would be useless - it just wouldn't get used. Hmmmm, but you'll still stand out aplenty in that. Particularly to a certain group of the male population. Although if that's your thing, fill yer boots. 
The various 2 seaters I've had have been used less and less with the arrival of small people. I retain one (a 328 GTS) but recently bought a 991 GTS for EXACTLY the reasons previously mentioned. Its a great drivers car, I can get the family in it and yes......we have even been shopping in it!! Shock horror!!! That dammed useability of those pesky 991's!!

In all seriousness though you're right there is a balance to be had between selfish enjoyment and your family walking everywhere. A £150k car budget combined with a family probably means you should allocate £5k of that to a family estate for the wife, and perhaps do without the colour coordinated seat belts in the Porsche.
It's tough but we all have to make sacrifices in life.

No, I have a 911 Turbo which is better than the 911 with a turbo. Well, they both have turbos, but this is the 911 Turbo.
It's like a who's on first skit just waiting to happen.
Porsche should just admit defeat and come up with a new name for their high end, original turbo. As if they've ever been shy about naming different versions of the same car.

A Nissan GTR....
Some dismiss the GT-R a playstation car but for me the GT-R was more fun & was more of an event the way you have to get it on boost & the steering whereas the Porsche was more responsive but wasn't as much fun but very capable.
For me for the money I'd want something a bit more special for the extra outlay.
Having a problem with its size when compared to a 997... And the back is still fugly. Not sure about blank buttoned centre console as well.
The main reason for choosing a two + two 4wd super car with roof rack potential is you can use it as a daily, for cycling trips and occasional family trips. Most other garage queens are gathering dust attached to charger at this time of year
