Renault. Had two, both started to fall apart almost the second I drove off in them.

VW - I actually own one, a very old one mind. I wouldn't buy a modern one, I hate the brand.
Audi - Again, I hate the brand and the smugness that goes with it.

Anything French and BMW because I worked for them and know what the average owner is like.
Why would that influence your choice?

There are some embarrassing attitudes on here...

VW - see irrational hatred posts above, also so dull...
Merc - they just don't do anything that JLR / BMW would do better
Kia - again not interested
Vauxhall - disgusting, cheap, unreliable, boring, useless pieces of tat. I've seen things better screwed together on Blackpool seafront. If only they weren't owned by GM then they might have thankfully gone to the wall.

At the moment I wouldn't even consider a car from a Chinese manufacturer....
Indeed. Having seen some Chinese tat driving around South Africa I'd agree, but Volvo is Chinese owned and seems to be turning out better cars than they did under Ford, and the latest Chinese MGs are meant to drive nicely.

I only ever buy manuals, so the list of makes is getting longer by the day. That's not to say there aren't some desirable older manual models from some manufacturers though.

My last of dislikes is anything French, BMW, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Ford, Saab.
Had bad experiences with all of them.
Saabs in particular are the most overrated piles of crap on the planet.

There's many modern manufacturers who have a line up of cars for sale that hold no interest for me whatsoever, for reasons too long and turgid for me to list here. That's not to say that the same manufacturers have produced cars in the past that I really like, and the OP didn't specifically state it was modern makes you'd never buy.

So I can't say I'd never buy a Renault or a Citroen or an Audi, amongst others, but there are a few makes I can totally discount :-

FSO
Wartburg
Trabant
Yugo
Moskvitch
Austin

Looking at this from a new car point of view so changing every two or three years I would be willing to consider most makes. But used I always go German or swedish and generally it has stood me in good stead.

Surprised folks are still put off buying Skoda based on their reputation of god knows how many years ago.

I don't think anyone (yet) has ruled out Honda, or Volvo?
For me.......Peugeot. Nothing about them appeals - I cannot fathom why there are so many on the roads, what possesses people to buy them?

Ford, Vauxhall, Kia, Hyundai mostly made of plastic so no

Jap No.

Aston, Ferrari, Porsche. Yes but I'm not a kiss arse at work, so not likely.

Bmw- no. Boring not changed in 15 years. Msport 2.0d 3 series driven by wkers.

Jag only ftype. Mad cars, sound great. Just the badge puts me off.

Land rover- yes only RRS though.

French. No. CRAP.

Mercedes definitely, BMW and Audi, probably. Can afford them but they lack taste. Same with Range Rover but I do own a Land Rover.

Aspiring chavs drive any of the above which tells you all you need to know.Ford, Vauxhall etc don't pretend to be posh but they are still good cars and I'd rather a GT40 than a Ferrari or Lamborghini.

I would have a GT250 or F40 if asked though. Really like Jags.

This is definitely a movable feast, isn't it?

In my younger days, I quite fancied a rear engined Skoda, because they were cheap to buy; and when the Favorit (first FWD) came along, that looked really good! A bit later in life and I didn't want one at all. Might think about one now.

Owned a 2006 Civic until a couple of years ago, nothing in Honda's range is remotely appealing to me just now.

Can't imagine ever wanting a Proton, but you never know. At one time they were meant to be putting the FWD Elan back into production, I might have thought about one of those. (Did that ever happen??)

Nissan. Had a 350Z and went off it pretty quickly. Hated the dealer too.

Well as other posters have stated id avoid anything chinese robably perodua aixam etc. to boot

Audi-Love the older five pot stuff, Modern white ipad on the dash dross is beyond vile (S8 excluded).

Bmw-Adore my e28's,e39's,e30's all the classic stuff but i agree they simply are not as reliable as people make out,Modern bmws barring the M5 M6 i totally despise , Hateful hateful crap.. When they made the 2 series mum wagon FWD thing it hit me in the heart, As this is coming from the company that would sell you an e38 with a huge v8 in japan red with piping to match.. such a shame they only appear to sell cars in white or grey now.

Vauxhall's- really like carltons, senators, cavaliers. But from about 1997 on it seems to just be hateful crap.

Not really no. My purchases are made on the engineering merits of the individual car itself rather than the badge on the front. If Hyundai release a snorting V8 muscle coupe or Perodua make a monstrous live-axle off-roader then I'll be all ears.

Actually I forgot Vauxhall. Never say never but I'd take a lot of convincing based on everything they've made over the last two decades (Monaros don't count, I'd have one of them in a flash).
My father always said he refused to have a Vauxhall after I was told at a motor show circa 1976 that I couldn't sit in the drivers seat as I wouldn't be buying one being too young - he simply told the woman in that case he wouldn't buy one and he never did.

I applied the Monaro exemption when I got the VXR8 - it wasn't really a Vauxhall was it? smile

French cars - No, Apart from possibly a 205gti but that doesn't really count.
Skoda - No, I don't care how much better they make them now they shall forever be associated with the crap cars they used to make in my mind.
Most modern BMW's made in the last 3-4 years. Every year they seem to move further and further more away from what I used to like about BMW's.
