RE: Mercedes-Benz GLS: Driven
Discussion
My use of the name Rover is referring specifically to my P6, which I ran daily for eight years and loved. It's not because of any inherent bias toward the products which wore the Longship - in fact, the 75 V8 is the only Rover since the P6 which I'd want. I'm not a huge Range Rover fan either, but I just struggle to see why anyone would buy a GL over a RR unless they really needed 7 seats frequently. Granted, I'd forgotten the XC90 is now 4-cylinder only - such a shame you can't have a straight-six or V8 any more.
These cars aren't my bag because they are not fit for the purposes for which I use a motor car. I have seen how others with this kind of vehicle struggle with them in the settings in which I find myself behind the wheel.
Nonetheless, I can appreciate their technical virtues.
I would have thought the main attraction of the GLS to one who is in the market for this kind of vehicle is that it is not a Range Rover.
