My use of the name Rover is referring specifically to my P6, which I ran daily for eight years and loved. It's not because of any inherent bias toward the products which wore the Longship - in fact, the 75 V8 is the only Rover since the P6 which I'd want. I'm not a huge Range Rover fan either, but I just struggle to see why anyone would buy a GL over a RR unless they really needed 7 seats frequently. Granted, I'd forgotten the XC90 is now 4-cylinder only - such a shame you can't have a straight-six or V8 any more.

The old XC90 lacked power and the new one is not much better - it is a heavy car and needs more horses to pull it along. Brilliant interior design and comfort let down by an underpowered engine. If you could stick the engine from my X5 into the new XC90 I'd buy one tomorrow....

I love the way the main picture has been rotated to make it look as if the car is driving up hill!

XC90 lacked power - even with the V8? I suppose you could subject it to the Noble treatment - a 650bhp XC90 could be a hoot, or possibly bloody dangerous...

These cars aren't my bag because they are not fit for the purposes for which I use a motor car. I have seen how others with this kind of vehicle struggle with them in the settings in which I find myself behind the wheel.

Nonetheless, I can appreciate their technical virtues.

I would have thought the main attraction of the GLS to one who is in the market for this kind of vehicle is that it is not a Range Rover.
