UK Hatch version definitely has all 4 pipes connected. 2 are always open and the other 2 only open when the engine is at a certain rev range and what driving mode you are in. They can also all be permanently opened via vagcom.
just spoken to vw and they confirmed that all four should be connected, mine are not, so trip to dealer.
Did they say that was the case with the estate? Read my post above...

Here is a good day at Crail for R owners but with a twist.

The Golf has 4x4, DSG and launch control........oh and a sausage behind the wheel (I'm not going to say this is your typical R driver in either attitude or attire).

That made me laugh, "Goodbye" and then the old stager come barrelling past like the Golf was a 1.6, so, indeed, what the hell was under the bonnet of the Coupe ? am guessing it was just the 5 cyl turbo, but what did it have in terms of mods and power to outdrag a Golf R like that.

Just a thought this morning after I saw one of these in traffic. Has any company offered a twin exhaust set up for these yet to replace the 4 pipes ?? I think it would finish them off nicely.
Especially as the two inner exhausts are not connected to anything
Lol, do you want a pic of mine with all four sooted up?!
I have checked again and the two inner exhausts are not attached and are purely cosmetic. I have the estate so I don't know if there is a difference over the hatch.
Ahhh, there is a difference, read this – http://www.vwroc.com/forums/topic/10119-r-estate/p...

In particular post #222

"Anybody else notice the difference between the estate and the hatch exhaust setup yet? The tips are all false and don't have any physical connection with the backboxes (also different) as they seem to just exit in the general tip area. I haven't been able to look at any detail to see how the valves etc are setup."
Ah yes, so looks like a different setup between hatch and estate. waiting ti hear back from VW, but it looks like the exhaust tips are fake trinkets and therefore cosmetic and a bit silly.

I was just thinking, the MK6 R didn't seem to get this level of interest. Infact, I can hardly remember seeing one on the road. I wonder why this was? Limited numbers available? No cheapy lease deals? They still seem to command high prices looking at the few used ones on the market.

Ive just sold my MK7 Golf R after 3 months of ownership and 1k miles.

I preferred driving my Edition 30 and looking at the glut of R's on the car sales sites - the values are taking a ttting so I cut it loose - WBAC and I must add, it was a really good experience

Mk6 wasn't popular because many Mk4/5 R32 owners were still sulking about losing the V6 engine from the 'fast' golf. Not 100% sure but I think the Mk6 was only a small revision over the Mk5 too, the 7 is a bigger "upgrade". I looked for Mk6s a while ago, with a limited supply, some modded and silly prices they were pretty quickly ruled out.

On the 7 £200 lease deals did much for it, which coincides with VW needing to make back a shedload of money its losing the the emissions scandal in the states. All the lease cars out there are going to hit residuals compared to the Mk6, which means they'll get in to hands of 'yoofs' earlier and its a downward spiral from there imho...
