Pretty much hypothetical as I am in no position to spend 10k on a car.

What is the fastest car you can get for 10k? Thinking along the lines of e55 amg.

Fastest as in bhp/0-60 including rear doors. The new performance saloons seem to boast so much power over the models just a few years before. Browsing autotrader as you do of course.

With no further requirements than you state, the answer will probably be some sort of stupidly tuned Impreza or Evo.

Ok let's assume only stock/remap no major changes.

I sold my bike-engined caterham for £9k.

Very little could keep up with that (up to 120 when gearing ran out...!)

Some kind of tuned Supra or Skyline probably. Can't they get 500bhp on standard internals?

A Caterham is the obvious answer if we're talking about any road legal car, but the OP stated that it must have rear doors, so really he's looking for the fastest £10k saloon, hatch or estate. I'm not sure if he meant standard or not, because once we start talking modifications it opens up a whole world of possibilities.

Probably a w211 E55k then, although the later X350 XJR is up there as well.

I agree with your thinking, but Evo's and Scoobies have really crap aero for high speeds.

AMG is not a bad call, just having a quick scan of classifieds, there are a shed load of options, CL600's BMW's, and a few supercharged Jag's all well under the £10K limit.

Like the look of this one:

V12 twin turbo...£6,950 what's not to like?

Edit - reading reviews, unrestricted, they can get close to 200Mph.

RS6 sounds like a good shout for a sub 10K budget or an E55.

But if it's not about pub bragging rights a 10K Elise would slaughter these on a track (but we all knew that).

I'll put my left field hat and go R33 Skyline with a mild tune but if it has to be 4 door It's either the Audi or the Merc methinks.

oops, missed the rear doors bit. Rules the skyline out too.

I guess it's a cheap big german then, or Aussie V8?

There is a 4 door skyline actually. Meant something stock/remapped only though not a highly tuned engine which has more chance to explode.

Hard to believe that much car / performance can be had for so little cash!

Isn't the V12 turbo reigned in half the time because of excessive torque? Might be better off a V8? Better sound track too.

I think the mapping is restrictive in lower gears to protect the gearbox, but it's still a very potent machine.

I came here to suggest a biturbo S600. They must run into the 155MPH limiter embarrassingly quickly.

Can you get a decent Supercharged Merc 5.5 for under ten grand ?

I looked at CLS 55's and the cheapest was 12, same with E55's unless it had "dodgy as fk" written all over it, plus they tend to be from the Mercedes rust era.

This one didn't ring too many alarm bells though, and would almost fit the brief

An 11 year old boosted Merc with a remap, what could possibly go wrong !
