Nothing else comes remotely near.
Many 7 clones come a lot closer than remotely near, at least in terms of driving enjoyment/performance, if not image and prestige (and kitcars are all about the former surely, they're not pose mobiles). Not knocking Caterhams at all but it's ridiculous to think they have some magic formula unmatched by any of the numerous very similar kitcars out there.

That's true, although it is one of the great originals- or as close as you can get since 1972.

The old OHC engine which is prone for its camshaft-wear?
I had the OHC in a Cavalier back in the day, the camshaft wasn't too bad, you lived with the "tick" it was the soft Ali head turning into a banana if you ever got close to overheating that was an issue as it left you on two cylinders :-)

My new 7 has a Zetec (I don't care what people think anyway, I would probably have bought one with a VX engine if everything else was right) either way its totally OTT and wonderful for it :-)
